It is scary how we can lynch someone because of the following:
- Scolding vulgarities at someone for doing their job.
- Showing a middle finger at a motorist.
- Colourful comments by the famous Anton Casey who might have changed his name now.
The above is not an exhaustive list. It is just that I was thinking about how some people or keyboard warriors/loyal citizens can just launch a campaign on making sure the culprit loses the job even if the actions are not job-related.
What is even more scary is that the private details are often published in forums for all to see and not the culprit is being punished, the whole family is being punished. Think death threats and red paints on their doors.
Most of the time, they lose their jobs and have to go back to where they came from especially when they are foreigners who found Singapore stable enough to migrate to. In terms of natural disasters, Singapore is safe except for the occasional tremours.
It may seem that Singaporeans who are born in Singapore tend to welcome own people since those who lost their jobs due to their poor judgement being circulated as videos online are usually expats.
Have we become xenophobic?
What does it take to be a Singaporean? Do those actions justify the person being stripped of their jobs? Are we just like the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland?
