The world has always been in conflict. I rather not touch on the topics like the traffics, new political party and whatnot. There are enough articles about those.
I saw a poster at my neighbourhood on teaching children about financial literacy. I like this kind of education. However, once we step into the working world, the employers state that it is against the company rules that we should never diversify our income and must stay loyal to the company that claims to provide us.
However, when the business is doing poorly, the company will no longer provide anything for the employees. So, may I ask, what rights do the companies have to enforce the rule that employees are not to diversify our incomes in the event of poor economy situations?
Yes, there are people who are unable to provide proper attention to the work on hand. I have seen and worked with such people before. They have another income that they work during the workdays in the evenings till late. That is not working hard. That is splitting your health and ensuring that your employer has the right to terminate you because you don’t focus on the job during the working hours.
In order to diversify our income, we have to work out the time whenever possible that we are able to focus on the job on hand. After all, we have more than 1 income in order to prepare ourselves for inevitable retrenchments that are now known as layoffs to sound less hurtful but still hurting our pockets and the bills.
The alignment of the employees and employers won’t align because of different views and the vast difference in income. Employers have to think of the company’s bottom line while the employees have to think about the never-ending bills that will keep increasing due to inflation.
Diversity of income is important and I personally feel that employers have no right to enforce that employees be dedicated to the company because when the company retrench the employees, the only source of income is cut off and the company’s claims of “treating everyone like family” or “everyone is part of the family” are useless. Those claims mean nothing to me. When a job posting includes “We are like one family.” I will be less inclined to apply for the posting despite my interest in the job. I may apply for the job and see if I get selected for an interview.
However, if I ever work in such a company, I can be assured that the culture will make sure that if I don’t work longer than my paid hours, I will be deemed as not committed to the company when the company does not really care for my family at all.
So, the woke salaryman mentality is to protect myself. Nothing against the companies but I work to survive in this world. I don’t want to work myself to death just to survive or even end up needing constant therapy in order to keep working and have such mental health records to be submitted for future job applications.
