What to Wear for Wedding or Formal Dinners?11.29.09

Sometimes, I run out of clothes to wear for attending weddings and formal functions like AD & D. If I were to wear a tube dress like the one below, I wonder if I am too outstanding.

Besides, I think I have tried a skirt with the bottom that has bubbles and I looked very odd. Perhaps, those of you who look good in the above red hot dress can look really stunning. Looks real good for Christmas and Chinese New Year too.

I love how this black and white tuxedo dress can have an instant slimming effect!

This pink summer dress doesn’t look suitable for a traditional Chinese wedding dinner but top it with a scarf and you are ready! It looks great for a Church wedding though.

I love this design as I can wear a jacket or coat over it during the office hours and take it off for a dinner after work!

What would be your favourite outfit for formal functions?

Starting 2009 With More Stuff for Sale01.02.09

Having cleared the desk somewhat, I found mybills torn to bits and thrown away. I have some textbooks that are still in good condition but no idea if anyone is interested to get them. I looked through the books that my brother doesn’t want and realised that they could be given to others if they don’t mind the unfortunate state that they are in.

I still have one that desperately needs to be used, Refresh Plus eye drops that are expiring soon. Selling them at a discounted price. I will be putting up my junk for sale. Perhaps some treasure hunters may find them useful. There are stuff that just needs you to pay for the postage only.

Including clothes that have never been worn. Lord knows why I ever bought them in the first place. Therefore, I summarise some of the stuff that I am selling.

Pay for Postage Only

Soft Toy

Huge Discounts

More stuff will be for sale, so watch out for them. Subscribe to RSS for updates without the hassle of checking the site too.

Handmade Accessories for Daily Wear10.20.08

Women love accessories. I love them too. I have earrings of various lengths and types. In my hunt for jewellery pieces that are not worn by anyone else, I realised that I have to make my own otherwise I will be seeing everyone wearing that same piece.

Who doesn’t want to be unique? There pieces that I sell too. I try to go for light-weight pieces that are suitable for daily wear and those hook-ons since it’s faster. As of this moment, seasonal pieces are for sale. They are also suitable for daily wear too.

Clothes, earrings and necklaces are currently in stock at Cheri Divas. Free gifts for purchases made is also available. Free gifts are while stocks last.

Our Teenaged Years09.10.08

We were young once. We want to show the world that we are no longer kids and want them to acknowledge our presence. In our own ways, we wore Armani, Burberry or Moschino apparel, carried Issey Miyaki or Guess bags, and even perfume to school. We wanted to show them that we are capable of making decisions for ourselves and didn’t need any babysitter every minute.

The boys would show off their powers by joining the big brothers who would say, “I look after you. Nobody bully my brother one!” They would often skip classes and sit at the coffeeshops or void decks and check out the pretty girls by wolf-whistling.

As time went by, they would get bolder, from stealing food to money. Each time, they weren’t caught, they broaden their “rewards”. The boys would also go to discos and Fire Disco was a popular place for seeing them dancing and playing with the girls.

The girls, on the other hand, would dress up and try to wear the shortest skirt that is allowed to school. Some would pull down the tucked in blouses as tight as possible into the skirt to show off their curves. Others would attempt to hide their hair highlights.

Yet other girls would continue wearing that threadbare blouse to show off what they were wearing inside. Or maybe it wasn’t to show off what they were wearing inside.

Those were The Days. I had the pleasure of viewing a Boi Kwong film made just for remembering those days. It is based on a true story about himself and his younger brother. It was a misguided attempt to ensure that his beloved brother would be protected that he pulled him into his world.

The movie captured the vulnerability of teenage years and their impression of being protected by the big brothers. Fighting and staring were often part of their lives. During the 1980s and early 90s, carrying parangs was part of protecting one’s life and to attack the enemy.

The Days opens on 11 Sept, 2008. The movie is just 100 minutes long due to cuts as it contains vulgar languages that were limited to the famous “Your father”. It’s a pity as I have heard far more colourful words being sprouted during my teenage years.

Stay tuned after the credits have rolled. To catch that handsome Zi Long a.k.a. Tai Zi, the cast will be at the stated places.

I have only one question for the director. How come Tai Zi wasn’t at the Cinema Europa one?

PS: This was made possible by GV Blog Aloud session. Thanks!

Online Buying Spree Starts05.25.08

The bags have finally been confirmed. HY was too busy the other time to start the spree. Apparently, PG Malls is a favourite online shop in Singapore. It’s based in Taiwan and if you see any bags you like, you ought to get it because there are bags that are discontinued. I had one of my orders discontinued.

I’ve even started another spree on clothes from Hong Kong with NL. This time, it’s clothes. The buying rules for CCT Fashion is different, for each design, you have to buy 2 pieces and a minimum of 12 pieces per order. I wonder why this strange rule. Thankfully, ES loves one of the clothes that I like too.

For Taiwan’s fashion, Orange Bear is one that NL has bought from and found it reliable. They do delivery as per order. Based on a thread in HWZ, this forum is hot and always full of threads, I found a few online shops in Taiwan.

Tokyo Fashion – Based in Taiwan, all the words are in Chinese.

Queen Shop

Joyce Shop

MPS Mimi – Shoes and clothes

Cat World

Sky Blue – clothes and bags

I haven’t found much Korean online shops except for these. Most other Korean stores contain Korean words that I don’t understand, maybe that’s why Korean clothes are not usually bought online in Singapore.

Zipia

Before I forget, my samples from Pure Luxe Cosmetics have arrived too! Thanks to HY. These are made from minerals and I love this site because they allow samples instead of buying the standard size.

For those who prefer Tees, Threadless Tee is one that has a collection of limited edition designs.

Aunt’s XL Underwear Put Out Fire01.03.08

A man used his aunt’s XL underwear to put out a fire in the kitchen. He and his cousin were frying bread when the meal caught fire. So, he “grabbed the nearest thing from a pile of laundry to put it out: his aunt’s billowing, powder blue, size XL underpants.”

The fire official said the general principle of using a large, wet cloth to cover a grease fire was a sound one.

As for using underwear: “Clearly it depends on what size you are — but I don’t want to go there.”

I think the fire official was right. Oh, the knickers were slightly scorched. Can anyone tell me why there’s a need to fry the bread? I usually see bread soaked in egg and then fried.

Wedding Outfit Woes11.19.07

I spent 2 hours at the hair salon for my scalp treatment. Actually, I was late by 20 minutes. I think I caught the “late” bug from someone. Anyway, since I had to get a nice outfit for the coming wedding, 24th Nov isn’t too far away, I went down to Vivocity as it seemed to have more variety of clothes.

Aye, there was a wide variety alright. I tried a bustier that costs $249. I looked average in it. For a wedding dinner, I doubt it was really worth it to wear it. Although I could still wear it to another dinner next month, I felt that it was simply too expensive. I have to look for another outfit before the wedding.

I still have to make sure the shoes will go with the outfit and I don’t think I have any nice pair to go with. I haven’t found a wedding-ish bag either. I wonder why am I shopping for such things until the very week the dinner is to be held.

I wonder if I’d be able to get anything that is worthy of being the receptionist dress at the dinner too. I’m still the receptionist next month.

Lack of Sleep11.18.07

After attending the wedding, I still have a headache. Despite going to sleep early, well, 11pm is not exactly early for a headache to subside. Now, it’s not so painful since I made myself sleep. However unsoundly. Tossing and turning in bed just doesn’t cut it for a restful rest. It’s not easy since it’s a hot night.

I woke up at 6.14am because there was a bright light. Yes, a lamp could have been used but the room light was used instead. I can’t control who switch it on unless I programme the lights to be available during certain hours on different days. Aye, that would be really be nice and I would get my beauty sleep.

I wished to be in my cozy bed now but I have an appointment to do my hair and some shopping to do. The failure of buying that top DD chose for me just made me want to buy it even more. Hopefully, I’ll be able to buy something for the evening wear.

Buy, Buy, Buy!11.17.07

Whenever I am invited to attend a wedding or ROM, I have to buy new clothes. With 2 weddings coming up, this was no exception. I went shopping with NL and HF. After walking for 3 hours, we ended up with a pair of shoes. Only NL managed to buy something. Although the main focus was supposed to be a white top for the morning.

I’m not going to get anything at this rate. The wedding is in less than a week and all I have is something for the morning but not for the evening. Panic is setting in and I don’t wish to end up buying something that I won’t be able to wear the next round.

Perhaps I should be able to wear it for the other wedding since the people attending it are different. Save money in this case. The problem with buying new clothes means that I have to buy shoes, accessories, bag and suitable inner beauties. Buying clothes can be painful and expensive. I’m so overspending now. Not to mention Chinese New Year clothes too.
