Chinese Wedding Dinners Are Always Late

NANJING, CHINA - APRIL 28: Groom Zhang Wei ki...

I am utterly bored by Chinese wedding dinner styles but won’t have a say in mine although it is mine. Because of face. Just that one word. I don’t think there is a need to show off the wealth since I can jolly well put all that money into better use such as good renovations and a further honeymoon place to have fun.

Unfortunately, the elders won’t be that easily convinced especially when the son is the eldest in the family. ARGH! Another reason why I dislike Chinese wedding dinners is because they always start late. As in 1.5 hours after the stated time on the wedding card.

Last night was the first time I saw people arriving only at 7pm. The card stated dinner would be starting at 7pm. DD and I arrived at the place only to see his tired friends resting at the sofas just outside the Grand Ballroom of Orchid Country Club.

They had been helping the groom in the morning and were busted for the rest of the day. The dinner eventually started at around 8.30pm. For my wedding, I will not care about late comers if I am forced to hold the traditional wedding dinner style. You jolly arrive on time.

The wedding album was another thing altogether. I liked the outdoor shoots as they were taken in China. I like the forest-like shots and the stream shots. Unfortunately, Singapore doesn’t have that kind of nature except for that Bukit Timah hill stream that is too tiny. I don’t want lalang shots for sure. I don’t want fake backgrounds of forests and stream shots either.

I don’t even know when I’m getting married either. :P

Stripping in Equinox

Friday nights are for partying. Thus, ES called for a last minute night out. We had dinner at Sakae Sushi. My craving, apologies. After dinner, the four of us went to Ink Bar but it was closed off for a private function till 9.30pm. Since it was just an hour’s wait, we made ourselves comfortably at the entrance.

The lady serving the drinks didn’t even give us a menu or asked if we would like to drink anything. Within 2 minutes after JC had returned from the restroom, we went to Introbar. Goodbye to poor service. We made ourselves comfortable at one corner of the club, the door where ES attempted to open but failed to try the other unlocked door. A really face palm moment.

We ordered our drinks and enjoyed the ambiance at the place. Poured our work woes and about the cruel world of why working and looking for jobs can be horrible for women at certain ages. The obnoxious people who refused to understand a problem at work and people who sing different tunes in meetings when a problem is still unresolved and why budget seems to be bugging everyone.

Mainly, we shared our stories of how to overcome them and releasing the stress. CD arrived nearly 10pm. This was where the fun started because she was all raring to go dancing her heart out. She spoke of her dancing experience in Boat Quay or was it Clarke Quay; this guy is a dancing instructor and asked her for a dance. She agreed after the bar owner said he is a dancing instructor. She twirled around in Salsa style half the night. Getting giddy was the end result.

Since she wanted to dance her stress away, HF accompanied her and they went to Equinox. At 12.30am, they returned to the table and spoke of this guy dancing near CD and unbuttoning his jeans. He was dancing very close and was really excited about CD. His friend started to dance in front of CD and got pushed away.

I didn’t realise that guys just got hot under while dancing and needed to strip. I would have crushed the balls so that he can’t use them to bang any more. CD said her hands would have been dirtied. How unfortunate, it would have been good to crush those balls.

It is unfortunate that discos and dance clubs can’t screen people for stripping-compulsive-disorders-in-public. If anyone can come up with a clamp device for crushing balls, do share.

感激遇到你 by Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong

I love this song by Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong. They are popularly known as Boscolie by their fans. This is used in War of The In Laws 2 (野蠻奶奶大戰戈師奶)

Oh, baby, I love you, I love you everyday

Oh, baby, I love you, I love you everyday
永远的心动每日也令我回味
珍惜就像调味
能维系便铭记 爱你能教我幸福一世纪
感激遇到你

Aloha Chalet

Posted in Food and Drinks, Just For Fun, Random Thoughts on Mar 02, 2008 with Comments Off

DD and I went to attend his friend’s baby’s 1st birthday. All the mahjong tables except one were out in full force. Goes to show that people do love mahjong. A lot. However, all the tiles had bright colours. I wonder how they managed to keep their eyes from being blinded just by washing them. The bungalow at Aloha was rather spacious. As were reached there at around 8pm, the rooms were close and I didn’t want to intrude on anyone resting.

The birthday cake was of Minnie Mouse. Apparently, the little girl must have adored Minnie Mouse. The parents wore matching Micky Mouse T-shirts. Most couples I’ve seen loved to do that. However, there was this couple whom I saw and they were wearing pink. Unfortunately, the guy didn’t look that great in pink.

With 4 bedrooms, I rather like the bungalow despite it’s age. It’s been there for quite some time. However, the bungalows are not that easy to be booked. They can only be booked 3 months in advance. If anyone has a bungalow with affordable rates, do let me know. I haven’t tried booking a bungalow for chalet, just NTUC, which can’t even qualify for bungalow.

I felt the cake was rather sweet to me. Not sure which cake shop as the box didn’t state. I thought cake shops are proud to show off their cakes?

Scam: Naughty by Nature

Posted in Random Thoughts, Technology and Gadgets on Feb 22, 2008 with 19 Comments →

Times have gone bad. It seems that even photography studios have to resort to underhand tactics to lure unsuspecting customers (remember Discovery VIII) to part with their hard earned money. This time, HF told me that a caller from Naughty by Nature (NBYN) is going to provide her a free photo shoot, 2 photos. Oh what joy!

I went down with her only to hear the guy informing us that no outsiders, as in only by appointments. With such a large space, I was rather surprised that they didn’t have seats to cater for ‘bodyguards’ (in his words, not mine). So, we asked how long the shoots would be and the reply was 2 hours. That’s freaking nuts!

For makeup, some change of clothes and 2 shoots, they needed 2 hours? It was 7pm and none of us had our dinner yet. So, it was very ridiculous to hear that we were to sacrifice our dinners just for a simple photo shoot. I was beginning to suspect something fishy. It must be some package that she would have to buy after the shoot.

We went for a makeover before and it certainly didn’t take 2 hours just for one to take a photo shoot. We aren’t even going for bridal makeup, D & D makeup, modeling or anything. For a ‘free’ photo shoot, this did sound like a scam, to fleece people’s hard-earned money.

HF decided to postpone the appointment to another day. The place was spacious and not crowded. We just couldn’t understand why it would take 2 hours and no bodyguards. Oh well, it was a good thing HF didn’t stayed for the shoots. I found that someone had taken a family shoot, wasted 3 hours trying to tell the manager that they didn’t want to take up the $2, 500 package.

They weren’t the only ones to be pressured into taking the package either. So, beware of some one calling you to say you have been referred by some friend (no names given) or win a lucky draw of some sort.

They called HF again to insist her to go down for a photo shoot despite her saying ‘not free’. So, they don’t understand the meaning.

Wet Church ROM

Posted in Emotions & Feelings, Family, Food and Drinks, Friendship, Gatherings, Just For Fun, Random Thoughts, Relationships, Romance/ Love on Nov 17, 2007 with Comments Off

While this wasn’t the 1st time I’ve attended a church wedding, this was the 1st time I’ve managed to view it from the start to the end. I was very late the other time. I got off at the wrong stop. That’s another story to tell. I doubt I’ll talk about it much. There were singing and the speech from the Father about marriage being life-long commitment. Yes, marriage is a life-long commitment. You don’t just say “I do” and expect miracles.

Both have to work together and sort things out. I saw a lot of young teens attending the event and they were lost about what went on. I don’t know the bride personally but she is their teacher and when they came, she kept waving to them. Shows how much care she has for them and their love for her too. There was the bouquet being throw at the end, even the guys got the chance to catch it. DD was too tired to catch it. All the guys never slept the previous night and had to reach the groom’s place at 5.45am.

Either they were too excited or they were doing something that kept them up the whole night like clubbing. I thought bachelor’s party was being held. It started to rain just as the service started. Thankfully, it stopped when we were leaving. Kriston catered the food. It looks like the favourite for buffet spread. I love the cheesecake.

I’m tired even though I didn’t join in as sisters. My hunch for the coming wedding, I’ll be beat by 3pm. And the dinner had not started yet.

Tonight, I Fly

Today is the last morning I’m waking up at home. Tomorrow, I will be waking up in Bali Hard Rock Hotel. I’m using 2 hotels for this trip. On the 4th Oct, I’ll be in Ritz Carlton Hotel, courtesy of the Marriott Vacation Club. No, wait, that’s not right. I paid a subsidized amount for the 2 nights. Hopefully, I’ll be able to take lots of photographs without using up 2GB of my SD card since I didn’t buy a larger memory. The last time I did buy a new CF card…

The sky looks overcast right now. I think it’s going to rain later. I hope it doesn’t when I’m trying to get to the airport later. I doubt that I’ll be online from tonight onwards. Oh dear, I haven’t packed finished! Time to complete the packing.

1st Time at MOS

Woke up feeling lost. I went to Ministry of Sound for my 1st time last night. I sound so backward. However, it went on to confirm something that I have been suspecting all along. There wasn’t a long queue but when I showed my IC to the lady, she stared at it and me. My photo was still of me when I first made it, in primary six. Suddenly, I felt old. I was let in.

There, my friend paid for the entrance fee. It was rather smoky, maybe from their machine that would spew out white smoke every ten minutes. We went upstairs after getting that invisible ink chop on our forearms. Actually, it’s called fluorescent ink stamps.

The dance floor was empty despite the DJ playing out the songs. Brandy with coke was strong. A few sips warmed my throat and the place didn’t feel so cold, I wasn’t sitting under the aircon vent, thankfully. It took 2 girls in mini skirts to start the dance going after 11.30pm. I was about to doze off from the lack of action there. We saw 2 main attractions, one guy in striped short sleeved and the other in long sleeved shirts making huge moves. They were surely getting the attention more than the girls who started dancing first. One of them was making huge movements by stepping side to side. The other was attempting to move some forwards and backwards and sidewards. Looked like they were with a bunch of friends who were having their first time at a club.

2 jugs of some red drinks were ordered, I think mixed with berry, those tasted sour when the ice melted. More people started jamming at the dance floor after 12 midnight. I started having a pounding headache. Perhaps due to the drinks and the loud music blasting away. At that point I felt some cold drops on my upper arm. Some guy had spilled his drinks on me. He offered his orange looking drink and I refused it. My friend’s husband immediately offered him the jug still a third filled with the berry mixed drink. The guy drank a bit from it and left after my friend’s husband took a sip of his orange drink. Apparently, I was supposed to drink that glass up as a form of accepting his apology. Now, what if I had drank that glass?

We decided to leave as it was getting more crowded. Some foreigners were having the time of their life there too. The disco at the first floor was more crowded. The music blasting out was rather heavy metal-like. We gave up trying to locate our friends. The SMS and call went unanswered as expected. Just before we left, there was a fight in the middle of the dance floor. My friend’s husband went to investigate and confirmed my initial question. It was broken up after that raised fist. The bouncers were efficient.

I took a taxi back after that and this time, my clothes didn’t smell of smoke and alcohol. The no smoking rule has kicked in. There was a room for the smokers though. While in the taxi, my head started pounding heavier and I felt slightly nauseas. Hoping that I wouldn’t puke in the cab, I breathed slowly. I was nearly home.

This trip has confirmed one thing. I am getting deaf in my right ear.

Hotel Review: Bali Dynasty Resort

Posted in Family, Food and Drinks, Holiday, Random Thoughts, Transport, Travel on Aug 23, 2007 with 1 Comment →

I’m ending up with quite a number of reviews here but then again, it doesn’t hurt to look around, does it? I can’t find that link to the hotel that a friend recommended. Anyway, here’s another review by travelers to Bali Dynasty Resort.

Apparently, there’s an outdoor jacuzzi. Other than that, the hotel was rather rundown. While the hotel’s conditions were not favourable, the food was fantastic. It also seems like a family hotel. Another noted the noise level wasn’t that acceptable.

Hotel Description

The popular Bali Dynasty Resort  is nestled in beautiful tropical gardens within walking  distance to the nightlife and excitement of the central Kuta area.  Waterbom Park is across the road and Bali’s newest Discovery Shopping Mall a short stroll away.

The resort is renowned for its warm Balinese hospitality and combines international standards with Balinese architecture.

The Bali Dynasty Resort is one of Bali’s premiere resorts for couples and families. The unique layout allows for a subtle but effective division between the couples market and the family market. Couples can enjoy the famous Gracie Kelly’s Irish Pub, relax at the adults only Lazy Pool, enjoy a treatment at the Spa Villa  at affordable prices and utilize new Exercise Room at no charge. Bali Dynasty Resort has five bars and restaurants to suit all budgets with nightly entertainment.

Kids can enjoy a 56 metre waterslide flowing into their own pool, complimentary entrance to an Enchanted Garden Kids Club with extensive activities. A wide variety of rooms catering to the family market are available sleeping up to five people.

[via Bali Dynasty]

Based on this hotel description, I think it’s more suitable for families with kids. I wonder if this should be shortlisted though.

Hotel location is at Jl Kartika Plaza | Box 2047, Tuban, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
