An Open Letter to HSBC04.28.08

Dear HSBC,

Thank you for your enthusiasm in getting your agency to contact me so that I can receive a credit card from you. The first time, I applied, I was rejected. No reason given. Fine. Thus, I decided that it wasn’t worth the effort of contacting your staff to verify why.

The second time, I was contacted about a few months later by one of your agency that I was to be given a HSBC Dual Card (Gold). Not. I was first rejected the Personal Line of Credit. Then, I was rejected the card saying that I didn’t provide complete credentials.

I believe it is time that HSBC can stop contacting me. I have given the SAME credentials for all my other credit cards and received NO rejections except from you. I am no longer interested in HSBC credit cards as I’m unable to take a third rejection should one of your agencies contact me again.

So, HSCBC, please STOP calling me to apply for your credit cards. I will HANG UP immediately without any reason whatsoever.

Regards

Day 1: Lasik Evaluation and Operation04.27.08

I arrived late at the MRT due to my animated talk with my youngest brother. Was supposed to meet HF at 9am at the platform. She arrived at 8.54am while I was just packing to get out of the house. Oh my. I half-ran to the station and managed to meet her at the escalator.

Orchard MRT Station EntranceImage via Wikipedia

We proceeded towards our station for the eye evaluation for Lasik at Paragon Medical. When we arrived at the lifts, there was a long queue. It was 10am, we were wondering what was going on at 10am in Orchard. The kids were in the queue and we simply hadf no idea. The lifts came and went. We were still stuck on level 1. Our appointment was 10am.

In the end, we decided to take the fire lift, again. We had taken it for the Lasik forum the other time. Finally, we reached the clinic for our eye evaluation. It’s free for those who have attended the forum. The waiting time was average since there were a lot of people undergoing the test too.

We started the test at around 10.20am and ended at 12.30pm. The tests were routine, checking your eye power and the measurements of the cornea. The part for the eye pressure was a little scary. The puffs of air blown into each eye made me jump. I would have jumped higher had the nurse not informed me before it.

HF jumped as the nurse didn’t tell her. I took some repeats as I kept moving my eyes a little. Fortunately, I could focus at a fixed spot once the nurse told me not to move. Oops. Finally, the tests ended with a personal consultation with the doctor himself. I was assigned to Dr Jon Goh. A rather nice man although he appeared a little aloof during the forum.

Due to eye drops, my vision wasn’t that good after the tests. HF had trouble focusing. In the end, we gave up trying to focus and navigated our ways through the crowds when the space was big enough. The fine words were rather trying too.

After lunch, we went to Far East Plaza for some shopping. I bought some hair clips. I think I buy too many hair clips. I did my plaits for the operation with the new hair clips. I think they are supposed to glow in the dark once they have absorbed enough light.

HF decided not to carry on with the operation as she had driving lessons the next day. I choose to take the operation. We went back to the clinic at 5.15pm for some pre-operation preparations. The nurse explained the procedure for the operation and I was assigned to a comfortable sofa to await my turn.

I adjusted my position on the bed a few times for it was perfect for the start of the operation. I was to focus on the blinking light. I tried to focus and managed most of the time. The suction was slightly painful due to the pressure. However, it didn’t last long.

I blacked out during the cut as it was normal and started to focus on the blinking light again. The pulses began after the flap was opened and I did notice some burning smell. I didn’t know if I was still blinking my other eye each time after the cut. I do know that I noticed a hazy vision with some clear parts.

After the operation, Dr Goh verified that the flap was done smoothly before letting me out of the operation theatre. I had a cloudy vision and took my seat again. The tears were the side effects and I was tearing non-stop. I think I suffered the worst among the rest.

HF was outside and counting those who have completed theirs. They looked fine with one even using the handphone to SMS. When I finally came out, I was tearing and nearly blind, she was shocked. She led me to the seat at the reception while we wait for DD.

I was in no condition to take th MRT and wasn’t keen to get bumped into either. DD led me to the taxi stand and we waited for one to take me and HF home.

Convocation Family Portrait04.14.08

It took me a few rounds of phone calls before finding a studio that had a free slot before 3pm. Of all days, it had to rain. Heavily. I settled on Gloria Photo Studio in the end as it was able to have a slot before 3pm. The photographer was very friendly and made us feel comfortable.

Even the brother who loved to give stern faces for each and every family photo smiled. I had specifically stated to the men in the family that they had to smile. If not, I will make them pay. Thankfully, they did smile for the camera.

The session took about 30 minutes. The style for convocation photos for this studio is traditional. The background has stayed the same. So, for those who prefer modernised versions, it would be best to select other studios. This studio doesn’t provide makeup for the ladies either. That’s why the package is cheaper than DeCharacter and The Makeup Inc (both that I initially wanted to choose).

A family portrait is important. If any of the family member feels that it isn’t, slap them upside down. If they dare to do that on your wedding day, give them two tight slaps.

Get The Best Price04.09.08

They say women love shopping. They aren’t wrong by far. Ever saw that map where the red line stood for the path that a lady would make and the path where a man would make? Huge difference. Just buying clothes alone would need comparison. Imagine 8 boutiques that feature something that you like. You would want the best quality without paying for too much.

Even computers need to be compared. Walking around is tiring. That’s why I do my comparison online without killing my legs and making myself tired and cranky because I can’t seem to find my preferences.

We like to get the best price for what we want to use for a long time to come. It’s pointless to buy something that will spoil easily. I’ve been comparing computers each time I am considering buying one. Digxa provides comparison for television, digital cameras, furniture, cell phones and many others. All the legwork is done online, thus, killing two birds with one stone.

Where to Take Good Graduation Photos?03.26.08

I’m having a huge headache. I’ve been sourcing for studios that take good photographs for graduation with my family. So far, my search has turned up with a few studios that are recommended.

Gloria

Werkz

DeCharacter Image

The Makeover Inc

Foto-U

Requirements

  • Professional makeup provided
  • Outfit provided for all except the person who has the graduation gown
  • Price should not exceed $500 for a family portrait with 6 people.

From what I have read in the forums, Singapore Brides and Flowerpod, Gloria provides the best output but doesn’t provide makeup. DeCharacter is rather creative as it doesn’t just do traditional convocation potraits. Foto-U does seem to be rather expensive. Werkz also provide good outputs.

My problem is, which one should I take up with? I didn’t realise that taking graduation photos can be such a headache in terms of choosing the studio.

Making My Money Worth03.25.08

I’ve had my share of searching for my web host until I settled on Dreamhost. With Bluehost, Host Gator, and many other choices out there, I was in a maze. With so many features and services provided by the hosts, I was totally lost. How to find the best web hosting company?

First, I had to check out the software that I wanted to use, Wordpress, what else? Next, the requirements for using it; MySQL, PHP and FTP. In addition, I like my site to be up 99.99% of the time. There’s always a down time for the servers to be maintained. Customer support is also an important factor. Finally, I needed to estimate my budget and the amount I was willing to pay.

After looking at feedback from forums and blogs, I chose what I felt was the best web hosting company. This sort of research took me some time as I wanted to be sure that the money spent was worth.

In Online Window Browsing Mode03.20.08

I loved accessories, especially earrings. Thus, I decided to search for online shops that proudly display their websites. So far, I have bought once and rather happy with the purchase. The easiest way is to look through Yebber for more such shops. And boy oh boy did I hyperventilate with the vast number of such shops!

After visiting their websites, I was rather disappointed because the owners have reviewed their own stores with 5 stars. Not that it’s a bad thing but the site designs aren’t that fantastic. One of it took a long time to download all the images because the design of the site was made to display every single image of huge resolution. Ok, so I may be exaggerating a little but I have no patience if it comes to downloading the image of more than 3 seconds when using a T1 connection. T1 connection is the fastest while broadbrand is slightly slower than T1.

I can understand if it’s a dial up and the downloads are slow but T1 lei! I’m losing my track here. What I do like is that there are some with beautiful designs but with not so good design. Or I’m using Amazon’s design to compare. Tsk tsk, such high standards.

I’ll introduce some of the sites where I feel they have pretty designs and are updating their accessories.

There’s a lot more but there is one where the domain name has expired. Perhaps the owner had decided to stop. Do note that these are owned by Singaporeans.

Shopping Spree Online03.12.08

I’m on a buying bag spree. Decided to get some new bags and got a HY to recommend some sites. I have 2, one is cheap (Taiwanese, all in Chinese) and the other is priced slightly higher but still more affordable than those LV, Versace, Valentino and other brands.

The other time, I bought new earrings from Beady Place, this time, I’m trying my hand buying online from Taiwan. HY said that the bags from Taiwan won’t be of very good quality, so once you have them on hand, don’t put too many things in! In addition, once you have 30 bags, there’s a 20% discount.

Looks like my money will be flowing out since I’m buying. I just pray that I won’t be buying too many.

Thinking of iPhone03.05.08

JC has an iPhone. While it didn’t appeal to me at first due to the exorbitant cost, I was rather impressed with its features after playing with it. There is a programme to check for the first and last bus, GPS, Safari for surfing the net, multi-touch, widgets, maps and many other functions.

Now that the price has dropped, I’m thinking if I should get it instead of Sony Ericsson  X1. Sounds tempting. There’s also the wide selection of iPhone wallpapers for iPhone users too.  Not that wallpapers don’t exists for other models. Just that a typical iPhone wallpaper is just more visible than others.

For those geeks, you would like iPhone mods. You can install applications that you like and hold such a sleek iPhone in your hands. Games, jokes, quizzes, RSS news feeds, you name it, you got it. For those who are always on the road, you can get weather reports and road conditions.

I’m starting to drool to get my hands on an iPhone. Besides, the size is the same as my Dopod 838 Pro with a thinner width and cool interface. The sleek black design and the function to store photos so that I can show them off do sound good to me. That way, I can show off photos of me and DD.

Oh, the idea of listening to songs while my long train ride to work does appeal to me too. I should include it in my list of mobile phones to replace my Dopod.

其实你懂我 by Chen Qiao En02.26.08

Been watching 樱野三加一 (Ying Ye 3+1), starring Ming Dao and Chen Qiao En. They used to star in 王子变青蛙 (Prince Turns into Frog). Below is my favourite song that’s being played throughout the series. 16 episodes. I rather loved the fighting scenes although through halfway, they didn’t show them fighting the bad guys anymore.

Babe
一句安慰也不给

一前一后
你跟在我的背后沉默
Yeh……Yeh……Yeh……
前前 后后
希望你握住我的手
Yeh……Yeh……Yeh……
Wo……Wo……Wo……
