A Mind of My Own

I’m looking at part time or temp jobs at the moment. The following job scope (HR admin assistant) described what I did before I left my 1st company besides my main role as an IT developer.

• To handle Hotel / Air-Ticket bookings
• To handle conference rooms bookings
• To handle visa applications
• To receive guests
• To update Director’s dairy
• To assist in Reception duties when necessary
• Other ad-hoc duties

It sounds strange that I’ve done those, right? Luckily, I didn’t really have to handle visa application or hotel/air-ticket bookings. I was sort of a receptionist when my supervisor or manager wasn’t at their seats. I had to intercept their calls because the Assistant GM would hint during daily morning briefings on handling calls. I ended up putting lots of post-it notes on their laptops, monitors, keyboards and tables. There was a time I was really sick of picking up the calls instead of doing something productive. I was in the middle of a project and the 5-minute a call was getting on my nerves that I took out the phone line of one particular table because that the one that rang the most.
I had half a mind to re-direct all the calls to that person’s handphone because the callers were asking me questions that only that person knew.

I did all those admin-related stuff as temp before joining in a permanent post. So, I guess I should change my line to admin or HR, right?

There comes a time when a breaking point is approaching and you just can’t stop it. I didn’t get confirmed and I still have un-done tasks. I have unbalance in my life now. I have a coming wedding to attend that I totally forgot about it and DD booked an appointment with the hair stylist. When I remembered something familiar about that date, I wanted to knock myself on the head.

There are dates that I can’t put into my PDA because there is no confirmed time for that event. So, I put the date in the back of my head and forgot about it until something triggers it. I have something to do in the morning tomorrow such as paying the exam fees for the project, bloody $682 inclusive of GST. It’s a bloody exam, so why should GST be included? It’s neither a good nor a service!

I’m about to break down because of the chaos right now. I get blamed for forgetting to take note of the wedding. I’m worried about my job and project.  I’m worried that if I don’t get confirmed, I will have to look for another job after CNY. I still have to see which days DD is free and not arrange anything besides dating DD. My schedule is pretty much the standard working hours except for DD. I have to print out DD’s work schedule and try to map to mine. Which leads to a major mismatch because DD would be working on weekends from afternoon to night or on night shift that means I can’t meet him.

I still have to worry if I don’t get confirmed, I don’t get to go for a holiday in March that I’ve been meaning to. My major worry is the job and I can’t concentrate on anything else now. I’m worried about money. I’m not that rich to be able to live off my savings for the rest of my life. I don’t know what events will be coming up and I am trying my darnest best to cope with all the schedules.

I am tired and going to break down soon if no one understand why I’m so emotional about losing my job, failing the exam and failing to keep it going.

In my family, I’m the 摇钱树. I’m usually paying for some things such as the XBox games (3 for $99), Sony Ericsson K800i, newspaper subscription, clothes, dinner at restaurant, etc. Going by the looks of it, I sound rich. However, I am not. If I were, I wouldn’t have hesitated at buying the car lor.

My lil brother is going for his shoe shopping and my mum said, “摇钱树，来，一起走。” No. I’m not going.

1. I am tired.
2. I am not going to pay for those shoes.
3. I spent way too much in November and December 2006.
4. My lil brother wants Converse shoes and they are too expensive.
5. I still got this darn project going on.

Now, how should I complete the project?

2006 has passed. The year where there were changes in my life besides others. I took 6 exam papers, a step nearer towards the degree. Start of the project and hoping that just the project for the year would do some help. It didn’t.

I fell ill for 3 weeks which made my parents worried. That wasn’t nice. Giddy and light-headed wasn’t what I was looking for just after my papers. I borrowed The Da Vinci Code from an ex-colleague, watched the movie and found that movies often change the scenes and don’t often go according to the books. That is because of predictabilities.

I had a change in my love life. Met a bastard who had the cheek to contact me after 3 months as if nothing had happened. Got together with DD who dotes on me very much. Changed company where I am less complaining which is not healthy. Negative vibes don’t help us in our lives.

Attempted to organise dinner gatherings with friends that changes got out of hand in December which made me unable to meet up with DD. Fell in love with the idea of owning a cat. I did had a fancination with dogs when I was younger. Didn’t actually own one in the end since my mother would flip. She nearly flipped when my sister had a hamster and added one more later which both passed away.

Started to exercise again at least once a week. Shall have to start again since I am no longer having the washboard thin stomach.

Bought a few expensive stuff such as a PDA phone, dinner for 5 at Quality Hotel and laptop for my lil brother. Nearly bought a car due to impulse. However, I still like to own a car, hopefully, I can afford one this year. It’ll be nice to go BBQ-ing at East Coast Park with a car to put in all those stuff.

There are a few things I’ve missed out for the year 2006 but I guess these are more memorable for me. I’ve decided to do away with New Year Resolutions since I don’t remember them after that. Pinning them on my table won’t help either, I just feel guilty.

I went to look at cars for the past 2 days. Call me crazy but I don’t care. I’m seriously considering one if my workplace needs to take me an hour of commuting. There is no way I’m going to make my butt sore from sitting on the uncomfortable seats for an hour.

My dad advised me to buy Japan made cars. Quality does count. You don’t want your car to break down in the middle of the road creating a massive jam, do you? Most importantly, you don’t want it to break down in a year either. You want it to last for at least 3 years before it starts to cough.

I can afford only so much. Even with the current low in COE, it’s still an effort in maintaining the loan payments. I still haven’t included the petrol, road tax and other car-related stuff payments yet.

My plan to sleep until 8am today was spoilt by an aunty who called my handphone looking for “GAN DANG ah? GAN DANG?” Gan Dang is potato in Hokkien. I was very irritated and replied, “KA SALA LA!” Wrong call la! The stupid aunty just cut off the line without any apologies. Look, you disturbed my sleep and still cut me off without apologising? It is RUDE one!

I should have just cut her off without replying. Spoilt my beauty sleep. I want to get rid of the dark rings, ok?! How can look for potato with a phone call? You look for potatoes out there in the farm where they grow them, ok!

I’ve been up since 7am. Idiot!

Since I can’t sleep, I tried my bluetooth headset that DD gave me for my Chrismas present. It can’t be used because it’s not discoverable. GAH! Now I have to go to the shop to exchange? How can like that?!

I miscalculated the time this morning. I was checking if there were any emails and forgot the time I was supposed to leave the house and meet DD. I gave him a morning call at 8.15 and then it hit me. I was supposed to be out of the house at that time! Duh!

Rushed through my packing and hoping that I’ve packed everything. The trained arrived just as I reached the platform. Cool. It’s not everytime though.

The good thing about watching movies on weekday mornings? You don’t have to buy the tickets early. I hope there’s good seats when we buy the tickets later.

I love it when my PDA phone comes with Word Mobile. I can store my thoughts as they come.

I have still yet to receive the rest of my accessories for my PDA. Tried calling the shop more than 10 times and none of them connected. What is WRONG? TRYING to RUN AWAY from ME?!
Even emailing to DopodAsia still has no answer. Only a reply stating that they have forwarded to the relevant department. May I know how big is your department? How come it takes more than 3 days to try to get back to me on my problem?

Starhub has a lousy and rude customer service officer. They don’t listen to their customers at all. My sister had called them to specifically instruct them to call only her mobile number a few days back and yet, they still call our house number to look for her. WTH?!

Mary, as she introduced herself, kept insisting that their system doesn’t have such instructions or record for the number. I was pissed off and didn’t want to give her my sister’s number because their customer service never did listen at all. She was behaving rudely and it made my mood foul that she refused to admit that it was their oversight or something to soothe my nerves.
I had just returned home only to listen to such shit. I just blew up though would have really loved to shout at her to bloody check their communication lines. I would love to know her manager’s contact to give him/her a piece of my mind right now. As of now, I shall let it rest. The next time whoever calls our house number to look for my sister again from Starhub, they will get it from me. I don’t care.

DopodAsia has a lousy customer service. 1st, I sent an email via their “Contact Us”. No reply on my query. 2nd, the hotline is not getting through. So, I tried calling SIS number. SIS was oh-so-helpfully gave me the hotline number which I said I can’t get through. The reply, try again later and a fat lot of excuses saying line is tied up.

3rd, I tried the hotline number without 1800 and I still can’t get through. I think they only have 1 hotline line to get through. I want to register my system online so that I can download the Chinese software! Is it that difficult?!

Keep telling me to call 1800 one. BUT I CAN’T GET THROUGH! What does it take for me to get through so that I can register?!
