The Holidays Are Coming!11.18.08

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the 1987 a...

Image via Wikipedia

Christmas is coming and I am so excited! That is if I can ever clear the mountain of papers sitting on my desk. I managed to dump all the bills that have been paid for more than 10 months. The only thing that went through my mind as I tore them up was that I want a shredder.

Shredders remind me of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because Shredder was the bad guy and he could shred anyone into pieces. Well, not really since he has two sidekicks, Bebop and Rock Steady. I was thinking if it would be great that I could shred those bills into tiny pieces.

You won’t know which thief would still your personal data and use it their advantages. Therefore, since I couldn’t tear them into really tiny pieces, I had to add water to the bag so that the paper will rot faster. Nice tip from Mom. Mothers are there for a reason.

Meanwhile, besides my NaNoWriMo, I’ve also been busy with building up the online stores for the holidays shopping. Here’s what you can find below.

  • Shopping with Cheri Divas is now so much fun with more clothes and jewellery.
  • Gadget Lovers has a wide variety of printers, handhelds, games and anything that is related to technology for sale.
  • For those preparing for their weddings, check out Lovely Gifts for gifts, beauty, lingerie and more.

Now, it’s time for my Christmas shopping.

Thinking of iPhone03.05.08

JC has an iPhone. While it didn’t appeal to me at first due to the exorbitant cost, I was rather impressed with its features after playing with it. There is a programme to check for the first and last bus, GPS, Safari for surfing the net, multi-touch, widgets, maps and many other functions.

Now that the price has dropped, I’m thinking if I should get it instead of Sony Ericsson  X1. Sounds tempting. There’s also the wide selection of iPhone wallpapers for iPhone users too.  Not that wallpapers don’t exists for other models. Just that a typical iPhone wallpaper is just more visible than others.

For those geeks, you would like iPhone mods. You can install applications that you like and hold such a sleek iPhone in your hands. Games, jokes, quizzes, RSS news feeds, you name it, you got it. For those who are always on the road, you can get weather reports and road conditions.

I’m starting to drool to get my hands on an iPhone. Besides, the size is the same as my Dopod 838 Pro with a thinner width and cool interface. The sleek black design and the function to store photos so that I can show them off do sound good to me. That way, I can show off photos of me and DD.

Oh, the idea of listening to songs while my long train ride to work does appeal to me too. I should include it in my list of mobile phones to replace my Dopod.

The Betting Game01.05.08

Anyone who buys 4D or Toto on a regular basis would queue up in front of the shops and eagerly purchase your numbers and pray that you’ll win big bucks and stop working for good. In reality, you won’t be really able to stop working for good due to the rising prices in absolutely everything. I too had high hopes in wanting to win big.

Queuing for bet is often a tedious task as you have to stand in the rain or hot sun when the line grows longer towards closing time. There is another option, online casinos. You can play various types of games like video poker, card games, video slots and more.

Worried about security? This system creates a wallet for you so that you can enjoy playing the various games available online. You even get a dedicated online poker area. Playing online has gotten easier where you get to enjoy the full range of games without leaving the comfort of your home.

Be A Halloween Ninja This October!08.30.07

There is still about 2 months to go before Halloween arrives. While it’s not that popular to dress up as ghouls and witches here, it’s a tradition elsewhere like America. For those who have been Naruto fans, you know what ninjas are. They throw sharukens, darts and channel chakra to walk up trees and over water.

While not many shops sell costumes to dress up as ninja, you can try KarateDepot.com that sells Halloween Ninja costumes. The supply set includes a Ninja uniform (with hood and mask), Ninja Bokken and Long Tabi boots. They have high quality and authentic looking customes that will look better than store bought costumes.

Customers who have bought this set recently were delighted with the quality of the boots. They loved the light weight of the boots and their quietness. While the bokken was not up to par, this is a small matter. If you are attending a Halloween party, dress up as a Ninja instead of a ghost, witch, warlord or wizard and have fun!

IT Show Visit03.10.07

I walked around the booths in Suntec on a weekday. It was still very crowded. I guess a number of people have taken leave to get the bargains on the 1st day. I was really tempted on buying the Lenovo Y300 for $1,999. It’s a 13.3″ laptop with 1GB of RAM and 120GB of hard disk space. So cool! It’s a major difference from my current laptop of 40GB of hard disk space and 512MB of RAM. However, I must be crazy to buy it now because my brother will be buying a laptop from poly if he were to study next year. It would be a waste to have an extra laptop around the house.

I hate the crowds that jam the walkways so, this year, I decided to elbow my way out without apologies. Don’t block my way because the walkways are wide, you don’t stop in the middle and use up all the space just to admire that wondrous XBox 360, ok. In fact, elbowing my way through the throng was a lot more effective that waiting for the people in front to move or the oncoming crowd to let you through because they won’t let you through. They want to get through you first. Yea, try phasing through me like the X-Men. Then I’ll probably let ya through, k?

I didn’t buy a thing though. I did consider buying a 4GB thumb drive or a 2GB thumb drive though. Looking around does make me feel impulsive to buy a laptop. I’m always craving for better laptops. If I were to get a new one, it’ll be my 2nd laptop. I wonder how many I will buy in future. I shudder to foresee.

CNY Activities02.20.07

The 1st 3 days of Chinese New Year is nearly over. I have shamelessly happily collected angbaos from almost every married auntie and uncle. This year, I get more wishes to get married soon. Last year, there wasn’t much. ARGH! I’m old and I’m showing my wrinkles now?! Strangely, these wishes came from DD’s side.
I have eaten 3 days of Yu Sheng. Traditionally, it’s eaten on the 7th day of the New Year. With the hard times in the past years, it’s eaten on any day, some even ate it a few days before the New Year because of schedules. I heard from one of my aunt that there were cases of tossing the Yu Sheng not only all over the table but on the face as well. 8O
To think on the hands is already sticky but on the face? Gosh. I didn’t take any photos this year. Maybe because there are no new members to the family and it doesn’t matter any more. Or maybe it’s the same people I’ve been putting up everytime and it does get boring after a while. I should explore other places to take photos to put up. I wonder if it’s a good time to visit Sentosa’s flowers exhibition. It’s ending on 25th Feb. A few days left.

Traditions are still observed such as eating soup dumplings on the 1st day, rice in the morning on the 2nd day, no clipping of nails on th 1st 2 days, staying up late on the eve, etc. I wonder if I will be able to keep them as time goes by.

I Heard That01.06.07

In my family, I’m the 摇钱树. I’m usually paying for some things such as the XBox games (3 for $99), Sony Ericsson K800i, newspaper subscription, clothes, dinner at restaurant, etc. Going by the looks of it, I sound rich. However, I am not. If I were, I wouldn’t have hesitated at buying the car lor.

My lil brother is going for his shoe shopping and my mum said, “摇钱树,来,一起走。” No. I’m not going.

  1. I am tired.
  2. I am not going to pay for those shoes.
  3. I spent way too much in November and December 2006.
  4. My lil brother wants Converse shoes and they are too expensive.
  5. I still got this darn project going on.

Now, how should I complete the project?

1st Wardriver Caught11.12.06

A guy was caught using his neighbour’s wireless network. His crime is being known as wardriving. This has been in existence since WiFis were introduced. At that time, it was expensive to buy a wireless router and a wireless LAN card. Nowadays, with more people going broadband, it’s cheaper than in the past.

Log on to the wireless network and download the contents that you like without having to buy a router yourself seems pretty good because you save on money. However, downloading large files using the wireless is taxing on the router because of the bandwidths involved. Another person who is the true owner of the router is unable to surf the net at the “normal” fast speed and the pages are being loaded as laggy. Playing LAN games such as World of Warcraft, Maple Story, etc will also impact the speed.

Gamers hate lag because a 0.5 second’s lag results in a hit loss. I know that because my little brother plays those games. As a non-gamer, I hate to wait for the pages to load. I even hate those websites with incredibly large image embedded on their sites. It looks nice but if it’s at the cost of me waiting for the page to load, I’m out of that site in 2 seconds. The large images don’t fit in the window sometimes and scrolling horizontally and vertically just to see the whole image sounds silly to me. I want to see images without scrolling horizontally or vertically for a single image. If there are more than one image on the page, I will obligingly scroll but no horizontal scrolling.
