The Week of Freedom or Sort of07.16.08

I have been freed from the routine job. Perhaps I have reached my ends of the what one might call the boredom of routine job. It hadn’t been that routine but I needed a change of scope that I craved for. I wanted to do something else but there just wasn’t any slot for me at the time.

I was in my first job for 4 years. Hanging on because I was still studying for a degree that isn’t recognised in the end. I had the chance to shift my scope there. I had a chance to expand my knowledge at my second job. There I was so focused in that I got so wounded up due to the demands there. There wasn’t any change of job scope that was possible as there were more talents in the HQ.

After all these years, I am realising that I am looking for an ideal job. My criteria is:

  • Allowing me to work from any time as long as I can produce results.
  • Allowing me to work from anywhere.
  • Paying me enough for my bills and insurance and enough to save up for retirement.

Perhaps what I need isn’t a job. All I need is to have a few roles or skills to juggle with so that I won’t be looking around every 18 months.

Since my last day at work was on a Thursday, I had an event to attend on Friday, the bag competition. On Saturday, I stayed at home scheduling my posts for my blogs. Sunday, I went out. Monday, I stayed at home to source for more money making schemes and I went to watch Hellboy 2 with DD on Tuesday.

Today, I will pick up the cosmetics from Pure Luxe from HY. I have activities on Friday and Saturday although I’m wondering if I have any activities on Thursday.

I have been thinking about the bags I have just bought. I think I would like to sell the black bag. It looks so odd when I hold it. The photo was taken by me, the background has been photoshopped out.

Proof-read Your Reports05.17.08

Having studied a degree, writing reports is the next thing to proceed. You have to write thesis for the project for that final mark to gain that honours. It wasn’t easy for me to choose a project from the list of term paper topics as there wasn’t really a list.

We were supposed to think of a problem that is plaguing a company or the mass. Tough. However, when I think of those who are in JCs writing their A-Level coursework, I wonder how they did it. Writing isn’t easy for those who have difficulties putting down the thoughts and process on paper.

Language is a skill. Some are stronger in written while others are better with welding their weapons using the spoken language. That’s why there are those smooth talking sales people we do have to be aware of as the goods that they sell may not be what is claimed.

For the written work, proof-reading is important as you can’t change the text after it’s printed. Written words carry no emotion. Thus, for students who have difficulties, they often request for help from peers or professionals who can help them with their AS Physics coursework, for example.

19-Year-Old Elected as Mayor of Muskogee05.14.08

A 19-year-old freshman of University of Oklahoma has been elected as a mayor of Muskogee. The city has a population of 38, 000 people. John Tyler Hammons won 70% of the vote from the public. It was the “greatest, humbling and most awesome experience” he had in his life. As his college education has yet to end, he plans to complete it and still be a mayor.

I wonder if such an election for young fresh blood would be welcome here since ours have been talking about young, fresh blood for years.

Silver Car Attempts to Kill Us03.29.08

I took half day just to take my degree. The place doesn’t allow me to collect it on other days. I decided not to attend the ceremony. Just felt that the 2 hours during noon weren’t going to be worth my time. DD decided to drive me there. We turned into Orange Grove Road but missed the turn after the private apartments. I’m so bad at reading maps. After the collection, we went to Nihon Mura at The Cathay for a very late lunch.

After lunch, we went to Bugis to collect DD’s birthday present by the union. Totally got lost because there were some streets that were one way. When DD turned in at Seah Street and prepared to reverse park, there was this idiot (didn’t catch the license plate :( ) driving racing pass us by barely 1mm from the driver’s side. Fortunately, DD braked on time. That’s why I prefer DD to lovingly drive me around.

We proceeded to look at the street directory again. I shall never become a navigator. I can’t read maps. Finally, we figured the route and proceeded to the union and waited for this lady to answer some idiot who loved to call at the moment we were about to be served. The present? It was a diary with a calculator.
I wondered if it was worth risking hit by some reckless driver. Well, since we were in the area, might as well redeem the gift. That’s what the union is always for. Redeem gifts like manicure sets, diaries, calculators, torchlight-cum-radio-cum-siren and other whatnots.

Lesson for that day was that never read maps if one is unable to read them. Consulting them during critical times would result in wrong turns. Always be alert on the lookout for some rash drivers thinking that they are Formula One drivers who can maneuver way much better than F1 wannabes.

Where to Take Good Graduation Photos?03.26.08

I’m having a huge headache. I’ve been sourcing for studios that take good photographs for graduation with my family. So far, my search has turned up with a few studios that are recommended.

Gloria

Werkz

DeCharacter Image

The Makeover Inc

Foto-U

Requirements

  • Professional makeup provided
  • Outfit provided for all except the person who has the graduation gown
  • Price should not exceed $500 for a family portrait with 6 people.

From what I have read in the forums, Singapore Brides and Flowerpod, Gloria provides the best output but doesn’t provide makeup. DeCharacter is rather creative as it doesn’t just do traditional convocation potraits. Foto-U does seem to be rather expensive. Werkz also provide good outputs.

My problem is, which one should I take up with? I didn’t realise that taking graduation photos can be such a headache in terms of choosing the studio.

New Age Girl by Dead Eye Dick03.13.08

I hate the name of the band. Why would anyone want to be called dick? It’s so obscene! Maybe it’s more memorable. Oh well. I had rather enjoyed the mass dance routine when I was in poly. I found a lip-sync by these guys who are great. Enjoy the embedded video.

Do Bullies Drive People to Kill?11.09.07

Looks like a violent day. A teen shot dead 9 people in a school in Finland, including a principal and a nurse. He had bought a gun on Oct 29 and planned his attack. While such violence is rare in Finland despite its highest number of gun owners, it shocked the nation that a bullied teen went to such lengths on a killing spree. After the Columbian and V Tech shooting spree, this seem to indicate that teens who feel like they have are outcasts will go on a shooting spree. They will finally get themselves killed or commit suicide.

In Japan, bullied school children commit suicide either in a group or alone. Goes to show that bullies drive people to their graves. A few questions that are running in my mind are why do they get bullied, why do they want to bully them and why no one cared enough to notice that something is wrong? Why are they shunned?

Are we that discriminating? Do we avoid abnormal people? Or we avoid them because they are physically abnormal, we just don’t like the way they are dressed, hate their thinking or we like to group together and just criticize them?

Are gun laws to be blamed? Should the laws be changed such that this will not happen again? Should family members and close friends talk to those who have been bullied constantly and assure them that despite these odds, they will survive?

Achievements, I Have None09.07.07

Been feeling strange after I reached the office. Not sure why but I get this sort of feeling out of body whenever I feel that I haven’t done anything worth shouting about. Such as earning more than USD100 in a month from Adsense, earn more than SGD50 in a month from Advertlets, etc. No, this is wrong, those are not my accomplishments alone, my dear readers have been doing me this favour.

My accomplishments should be getting that degree that I’ve been slogging for 4 years, being able to retire rich by age 35, publish a few best sellers, be healthy and travel to any country with DD. Another accomplishment would be able to train Latte into doing all sorts of tricks. That, I shall leave it because Latte, no matter how clever that lil critter is, will never listen to me. Guinea pigs work for food.

Wonder if this odd feeling will last through today. I wish to work 4 days a week.

Expats Are Concerned About Rising Living Costs Too09.05.07

While the hot topic, so-called hot, is about Odex (still trying to justify its cause which infuriate even more people) and the NSF guy who decided to bring along a SAR-21 gun to Cineleisure, the expatriates are leaving Singapore due to the rising living costs. A very interesting point to note in our “First World” country.

This is spot on - there is no question about the risk of being an expat - but moving to a self-proclaimed First world country and seeing third world market conditions is a rather worrying situation.

I must say, this is something a few of us have been asking, no? My gripes have mostly been about rising GST and bus fares because I have to spend money on food, things and travelling. Unless, there is a way for me to be able to work from home without worrying about the bills because I’m able to keep my income without being highly taxed, I will not think about migrating. Now, I’ve been thinking of migrating to another country because I’m being penalised for earning too much.
