牛头不对马嘴05.07.08

Apparently, my English isn’t as I thought it is supposed to be. The following is the email I sent for an enquiry.

To Whom it May Concern,

I would like to know if there is a package for a group of 5 girls for a makeover as I can’t find it in your website.

Thanks.

Simple, right? WRONG! Look at the reply below.

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in our services.
Please go to our web site www.themakeoverinc.com.sg for more information.
All pictures are taken in digital format and there is no negative or soft copy or CD provided. CD are additional charges.

Image in CD:
(list of the pricing for the images to be burnt into the CD)

False eyelashes are available at $20 per pair. And please bring ur own outfit thank you!

There is an image for a package for one female. That certainly wasn’t what I asked for. So, I scanned through the email again trying to see if there was anything wrong with my eyes or my language. I am seriously wondering if that is the standard reply. I asked for GROUP, didn’t I?

Shopping Spree Online03.12.08

I’m on a buying bag spree. Decided to get some new bags and got a HY to recommend some sites. I have 2, one is cheap (Taiwanese, all in Chinese) and the other is priced slightly higher but still more affordable than those LV, Versace, Valentino and other brands.

The other time, I bought new earrings from Beady Place, this time, I’m trying my hand buying online from Taiwan. HY said that the bags from Taiwan won’t be of very good quality, so once you have them on hand, don’t put too many things in! In addition, once you have 30 bags, there’s a 20% discount.

Looks like my money will be flowing out since I’m buying. I just pray that I won’t be buying too many.

Thank You for Loving Me08.18.07

Been receiving some e-cards recently. I’m so touched, my Worshiper, Friend, Soccer Stud, Francoe and Lilian. I now know that I have 2 lovers, Soccer Stud and Francoe who told me not to worry and be happy. You know what they have written?

I`m in hurry, but i still love you…
(as you can see on the ecard)

Aww, so sweet of you. However, I’m sorry to break your sweet lil’ hearts, I have eyes only for my DD. The one I go for a walk with in HSBC Treetop walk, I made pancakes for, stroll at the Bird Park and holidayed in Bangkok with.

Free Cone Day was first celebrated back in 1979 in the first Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop - a dilapidated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, USA. Ben and Jerry had been scooping ice cream for a year and decided to reward staff and customers in the best way they knew how - by serving up a tasty tub of thanks free to everyone. An instant success, Free Cone Day has now been scooping up free cones for over twenty-five years and has raised tub loads of money for charity too.

Some Spare Cash03.18.07

I want to earn more. I want to save more and I want some extra cash on standby for emergencies. To do that, I need your help. Yea, I know, I’m shameless. However, I must have thick skin in order to be able to network, right? I’m going to try out a service that pays me to read emails. It’s supposed to be based on what topics I have selected. I’m putting the link here until it proves otherwise. There’s an administrative $1 for cheque payouts, free for PayPal payouts. Do I have to go and setup one now? I’m still considering.

I’m not putting any banners because I don’t have a host and I doubt Yahoo would let me host it every time due to the limited bandwidth. That’s the problem with free membership accounts. One day, I may subscribe to paying for some of my accounts, that’s when I get rich, ok?

I have an email account for this case, I don’t want my regular account to be spammed although it claims that they don’t send spam emails. Maybe they don’t but you get my drift?

No Such Thing As Free03.16.07

Often in our lives we love free stuff. Buy one get one free that kind of promotion. I no longer believe in the free stuff thrown in after spending thousands of dollars on my new computer only to receive a free cheapskate mouse. I want the mouse that is worthy of being seen together with my thousands of dollars computer, not some $10 worth mouse.

With the rise in emails being processed, we have started to receive emails that claim to let us receive free stuff just by forwarding the email to many people and someone would contact you once it’s confirmed. So, how do you confirmed that an email has been sent? In the Sent Folder of course. Who actually checks that you have sent the email? When you CC the person who is supposed to be checking la. Does this person actually exists? Where is the contact number in that email?

One such scam is the Sony Ericsson scam email. It states that free handphones will be given but there are issues with the email itself. You can read about my dissection account of it here.

There is no such thing as free gifts. You have to buy $100 worth of stuff before you will receive a $30 iron. I might as well just buy that iron since it’s the only thing I need at the moment instead of buying $100 worth of impulse buys just to get that “free” iron, right? Depending on situation, if I need $100 worth of groceries, I will buy them and still get a free iron. Now, about my expenditure list

Cards Sending02.09.07

FloraGN3- New Year Greeting Card [via Webshots]

I haven’t been sending Christmas cards and Chinese New Year cards for a long time. I have since lost my friends’ addresses in the pile of stuff that has accumulated throughout the years. I never got around to clearing the stuff out and my parents take turns to sing song about it.

I will need my friends’ updated addresses. I won’t promise that I will be sending any cards out but I remembered the fun of filling up the 1st card with words and subsequently, the rest of the cards had shorter words, no longer paragraphs. I run out of words to write because it seems a bit silly to repeat “Merry Christmas!” and “新年快乐!” on all the cards. I try to vary my words but somehow they failed me.

I used to send out eCards, although the animated ones are cool to send; they include music. It still boils down to the same problem; running out of greetings to say. These days, the cool looking animated eCards are no longer free to send out, you need to pay for monthly fees, I get to send out unlimited number of cards as long as I pay cough up the cash.

I may start my ritual of sending out cards again once I manage to compile my existing list of addresses. Can my dear friends update me on your new home addresses? Not the emails, I have, thank you.

Now, excuse me while I look for other greetings to be included in the cards such that you will each receive personalised cards.

Gross Thingy in Toilet02.08.07

Let’s say you found something gross in the toilet. I don’t have to describe to you in case you’re eating now. The toilet is located in your office and it’s your company’s private toilet at that. What’s your first reaction? Blanch? Scream? Or shoot an email to the gender related staff about your findings?

Since you were the one who found it, would you want to play detective and catch the culprit? When you find the culprit, what do you want to do? Sack the person because of the gross things left in the lavatory? Send a warning letter? Do the cleaner’s job for a week or longer depending on the gross-ness of the thingy left behind?

My HR found something that is gross to her and she sent an email to all of us. However, just after the email, a second email was sent. She had found another gross thing in another cubicle and totally freaked out. They (the close clinques of hers) just mentioned that it was the 1st time it happened in years. It seems that they suspect the newcomers are the culprits. The remark was spoken near me, it sounded that they were suspicious of me. Hmm.

Politics run very strong here. I have to be careful.

64-Year-Old Man Audtioned for American Idol 602.02.07

A friend of mine emailed me this link about this 64-year-old man who auditioned for American Idol. He got a petition to get him in because his late wife had encouraged him to do it. He did it because she was dying of cancer and he wanted to do it for her. Prepare tissue hor! He sang very well too!

 Longer version below.

No Response, Again! WHY?12.04.06

Am I expecting too much? I sent an email for a reply on the gathering and it’s always, wait, wait and wait. I can wait till the reply by date and still have to use SMS or call because “Oops, sorry was too busy to reply” or “Oops, sorry, was busy just now, didn’t answer. So, what’s up?”

What’s up :?: Obviously, you haven’t read my email or SMS, yet. How difficult is it to check your schedule and say you free or not? I try to organise the gathering in a month’s time so that people can check their schedule to see if they’re available. I choose 1 month in advance because people had told me to let people know a month ahead and see what I get? NO REPLY!

People told me, “Sorry, can’t make it. Next time, ok?” Yeah, the next time the answer is still next time. People will organise next time, not me. Obviously I can’t seem to put any gathering to fit people’s schedule.

RRROOOAAAARRR!!

So why do I have to even do it? There’re so many communication methods such as SMS, email, MSN and call. I have to use all of them every time when trying to get confirmation from those who have yet to inform me by the reply by date. Why like that?!

I did my part and so, do yours too. Get back to me on whether you are available and my job as the event organiser would be easier. I have to think of a venue for eating, activity after the food and time that is most suitable for everyone.

I hereby relinquish my unofficial role as organiser for the year 2007 (New Year resolution). Sick of it, ok. Nobody wants to reply. And nobody did.
