Health Is Not Valued Until Sickness Comes

The title is a quote from Dr Thomas Fuller. Most of us are working full time. We go to the office due to various reasons and one of the reasons surely isn’t just the health benefits that the company gives. Falling ill is awful since rolling around in bed with aches and stuff noses isn’t a good feeling despite not being able to work.

I used to be happy to be taking MC so that I could just escape the work even for a day. Upon my return, there were more work to be done. Eventually, I found myself asking myself, “Is this all to life?” I wondered if there is ever a day where I can actually enjoy the fruits of labour so that I can spend time with my ageing parents who are supposed to be retired comfortably.

Being gleeful at even getting the common cold at the time was like striking the lottery. As long as there is a way out of not going to the office, I would be happy. Until the recovery period for the illness. The nose is often found to be flaking due to the cold air from the air conditioners in the office even when the flu is being fought off in its last stages.

That’s when I wished to be healthy. Being in good health means that I can run and jump without any worries. At this time, I wonder about people who have chronic illness and can’t even do the less strenenous exercises. How do they keep themselves healthy then?
