Dogs Are Chick Magnets, No Matter What Size01.31.09

Whatever the dog’s size is, as long as it is cute and stays where it is, it is a chick magnet. Even kids love to pet dogs. That’s why some guys have dogs. I was with this chick magnet from morning till afternoon. One cute girl even asked to take a photo of the dog except that she had to take multiple shots because the dog was truly turning the head way too much to be still for one shot.

Knows how to beg, roll over, come, heel and will do tricks for treats.

Family of cow where a long queue formed just to take photos with them.

Cow lovers hugging each other for dear life.

Rainbow with leprechaun and a definitely repulsive looking maid.

Definitely a male was posing for the making of this statue.

All photos taken at Sentosa Flowers 2009. A pity that the flowers didn’t look enough to fill up the place. It was also a pity that they looked wilted for most of them. In addition, more dogs are now seen in Sentosa. For those scared of dogs, avoid the beach during the peak periods such as on weekends. Unfortunately, that’s when most people are free to visit Sentosa.

Charitable Acts at Thrift Stores01.27.09

It’s been quite a long time since I did any charitable acts. After the major uproar about donations especially money related issues have been raised a few times in the news headlines, I wonder if money is the best to offer or real stuff like food and items that are still usable that can be donated instead of insisting on purely monetary values.

Therefore, I decided to check if there are any thrift stores located in Singapore. To my surprise, besides the Salvation Army Thrift Store that I heard about a few years back, there are other thrift stores too. Fashion Nation took a visit to Something Old, Something New and presented a few finds. Visiting such stores need a lot of patience and time to find your treasure. It’s setup by Simei Care Centre.

Thrift stores depend on donations, so you are keen in donating your electronics, clothes and other stuff, feel free to drop them off at the following locations.

Some of the thrift stores need volunteers so if you have the time to spare, why not help once a week?

The Year of the Ox is Upon us01.23.09

The year of the rat has gone and it came with Obama’s victory to the presidential post. Not an easy one since the whole world is watching him trying to let the finances going again. Bush’s takeover was certainly a bearish year. A quick slide to the bottom when one company after another announced their bankruptcy affecting pretty much the whole world since every trade is interwined with another.

Here, politics come into play since it is a great loss of face to announce one’s ability to handle the finances poorly to one’s spouse and another to the whole wide world. From what I gather, the Bush family haven’t been great in finances, otherwise, useless wars wouldn’t have been created in order to creat such morbid jobs to save the desperately injured.

Not that I should be the judge. It is hoped that in the year of the ox, the graphs will shoot up again so that jobs can be maintained and perhaps new ones for the fast changing economy. Money makes the world go round and that’s why trading is still a hot job but it is not an easy one either.

I have been trying various ways to earn some money while being online and it is a long road ahead. Those who have been successful have at least taken a year due to their commitment to their day jobs before quitting and joining in the foray of the digital world.

I hope that something positive will come along and I can go for holidays without worries. Sometimes, I hate it when money is the root of all evil. May the bull help us all.

Forex Trading Obssession01.18.09

With the still gloomy economy outlook, forex trading is something that some look to as an alternative. It makes money faster but it loses money faster if you are not careful. Others make use of forex auto pilots which are sprouting online everywhere telling you how good their product is.

The obssession to make more money is rather terrifying since money is the one that buys food, homes, holidays, and other material comforts. Sometimes, the trader gets so excited about the money that watching the market trends is left out or even trying to outsmart the market is attempted.

Here, CK Owyong chronicles his adventures with forex trading. Sometimes, all you need is a little help from an advisor. I’m in love with making more money but the obssession often kill me faster.

Growing Old Can Be Scary01.16.09

Old people have to collect empty cans and cardboards to make a living now despite the living standards having been increased. My grandmother still has to wash the dishes at a coffee shop near her place. My father still has to work despite having reached the “retirement” age.

Living standards have increased. Expenses have also increased. Therefore, old people still have to work, no matter the age. To think that having reached 55, you should be enjoying life. Unfortunately, the recession and all other things affect why we still have to work at all ages unless you are bedridden.

Sometimes, Alzhemir’s Disease strike. What’s the use when you need others to look after you at all times? Other times, young people find you a nag. Insisting on talking to someone despite being told that the person is at work and unable to entertain you. Insisting on entering that person’s house and demanding a call be made just so that your cupboard can be repaired for a low price.

I don’t know what kind of old person I will be but I hope that I won’t be alone. Those old people without any family are really pitiful and I wished to be able to help them but money is also the key issue. They need food and I can’t possibly buy every time for them.

Why is life so difficult?

Those School Years01.10.09

A feeling of nostalgia overcome me when I watched shows like The Days, Hana Kimi and Brown Sugar Macchiato. School crushes were a plenty of course. What’s growing up as a teenager without girly crushes over that cute guy in class or another class?

I never shown my bravery at telling any of the crushes that I remotely liked them. The girls in BSM were brave to tell them. One even made a scarf for hers. I can’t knit at all despite a few attempts. I have never had such adventures like Ashiya Mizuki in Hana Kimi with so many guys. Actually, in real life, it’s impossible to actually sneak into a boy’s school unnoticed.

I mean, not all girls can actually disguise themselves as boys so well. Sometimes, I wondered where all the handsome ones had gone to and realised that dramas chose only the cute ones to act. Pretty girls don’t study at the same school either. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a title called School Belle in the first place.

Come to think of it, I can’t remember if we had any School Belle in Secondary School either. Did I miss out something in my bumbling years? I still remember this primary school Science teacher. Somehow, she was stalking me by entering the same secondary school I was attending!

The horrors! Everyone was afraid of her because she was fierce. Especially during her pregnancy. I wonder why. It was by pure luck that I wasn’t assigned to the class where Home Economics was part of the subjects.

Frankly speaking, I fell asleep by the 3rd lesson of History within 5 minutes. World War II and all about how Singapura became Singapore was really old news. Why can’t we learn about Pernarakan Culture or the differences between Taoists and Buddhists? How many different religions do we have in Singapore actually?

How many different dialects do we have actually? I don’t even know which Lunar day of the month we have to pray to the different gods. I don’t even know what customs we have to observe during a birth, 1st month for the baby, wedding and different things to say during Chinese New Year.

I don’t even know how long some of the buildings have stood in certain places either. I wonder what I learned during my school years besides Mathematics, English, Electronics, difference between like and love. Forget like love since such feelings are still new.

Sometimes, I wonder if the school years could have been more interesting if I had done something brave. Like actually remembering the script on stage when I was performing. That’s when I realised that I have severe stage fright.

Review: Arrange Your Vacation01.06.09

Arranging my own holidays is fun when I get to choose my preferred accommodation. Here, Arrange Your Vacation comes into place. I like the neat sections where Latest Rentals and Featured Rentals are placed prominently so that I can just click and check out the best prices.

What’s even better is that RSS is available so that I don’t have to check the site everyday. I can just read from my RSS Reader and be updated when there are new rental rates being updated. The blog gives out tips on renting vacation homes too. A bonus since most sites on accommodation rarely give out tips.

In addition, you can view the lodging in various countries just by viewing the regions available such as, Asia, South America, Saint Helena and more. As an added bonus, you can even search for your preferred lodging by type, location and rental categories.

Site Rocks

  • Various options for choosing the accommodations: Rental type, Rental Location, Rental Categories, Region, Countries.
  • Clearly marked sections by using different colours.
  • RSS options for rental updates.
  • Newsletter subscription option available for those without RSS readers.

Site Improvements

  • Scrolling down just to know that there are other search options available. Viewing by Rental Regions can be placed as a sidebar.
  • Newsletter subscription option is placed too near the footer.

Oh No, John!01.05.09

Despite my attempts to stay off line, I have this song in my head. I used to sing it in a performance with the rest of the class for a school event years back. It was Oh No, John! (Sanitised version) other titles include The Spanish Merchant’s Daughter, The Dumb Lady and No, No not I. I came to know of it just as I was doing a search. The wonders of Google and search engines.

Lyrics
By Cecil Sharpe

On yonder hill there stands a creature,
Who she is I do not know
I will court her for her beauty,
She must answer yes or no
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

My father was a Spanish Captain,
Went to sea a month ago
First he kissed me, then he left me,
Bid me always answer no
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Oh madam in your face is beauty,
On your lips red roses grow
Will you take me for your lover,
Madam answer yes or no
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Oh madam I will give you jewels,
I will make you rich and free
I will give you silken dresses,
Madam will you marry me?
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Oh madam since you are so cruel,
And that you do scorn me so
If I may not be your lover,
Madam will you let me go?
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Then I will stay with you forever,
If you will not be unkind
Madam I have vowed to love you,
Would you have me change my mind?
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Oh hark, I hear the churchbells ringing,
Will you come and be my wife?
Or dear madam, have you settled,
To live single all your life?
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Since the bawdy lyrics can’t be found in Youtube, I have only the lyrics.

Lyrics
By Mark Johnson

On yonder hill there stands a creature,
Who she is I do not know
I will court her for her beauty,
She must answer yes or no
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

On her bosom are bunches of posies,
On her breast where flowers grow
If I should chance to touch that posy,
She must answer yes or no
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Madam I am come for to court you,
If your favor I can gain
If you will but entertain me,
Perhaps then I might come again
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

My husband was a Spanish captain,
Went to sea a month ago
The very last time we kissed and parted,
Bid me always answer no.
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Madam in your face is beauty,
In your bosom flowers grow
In your bedroom there is pleasure,
Shall I view it, yes or no
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

Madam shall I tie your garter,
Tie it a little above your knee
If my hand should slip a little farther,
Would you think it amiss of me
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

My love and I went to bed together,
There we lay till cocks did crow;
Unclose your arms my dearest jewel,
Unclose your arms and let me go
Oh no John, No John, No John, No!

I’ve always liked the melody as it was easy to sing along. After reading the first version, I now wonder.

That Nauseous Feeling01.04.09

Been feeling nauseous every time I stare at the screen for more than 5 minutes. This reminds me of the time whenever I smelt the bread in my poly days. I was literally sick from the same stuff over and over again. Therefore, I have been spending less time online these days and attempting to clear Mt Clutter aka my desk.

So far, the mountain is reduced to half the size it used to be. I wanted to do it again but since receiving the long awaited belated Christmas gift from Sony, I went to Funan while lugging my trusty foldable trolley. The box was too huge for my trolley to hold on for too long. Thankfully, my dad was able to drive my mum and me home after we had completed the redemption.

I have managed to create new pendants for Cheri Divas. Will be posting them up once I have taken photos of them. Subscribe via RSS too. Meanwhile, I have free gifts for the purchases too. I’m still exploring the option of overseas orders as the shipping costs are different for different countries.

Not interested in diva stuff? Check out my jumble sale. More are being put up for sale. So, check them out via RSS!

I think I shall be offline more often since it’s good for my health too.
