Silver Car Attempts to Kill Us03.29.08

I took half day just to take my degree. The place doesn’t allow me to collect it on other days. I decided not to attend the ceremony. Just felt that the 2 hours during noon weren’t going to be worth my time. DD decided to drive me there. We turned into Orange Grove Road but missed the turn after the private apartments. I’m so bad at reading maps. After the collection, we went to Nihon Mura at The Cathay for a very late lunch.

After lunch, we went to Bugis to collect DD’s birthday present by the union. Totally got lost because there were some streets that were one way. When DD turned in at Seah Street and prepared to reverse park, there was this idiot (didn’t catch the license plate :( ) driving racing pass us by barely 1mm from the driver’s side. Fortunately, DD braked on time. That’s why I prefer DD to lovingly drive me around.

We proceeded to look at the street directory again. I shall never become a navigator. I can’t read maps. Finally, we figured the route and proceeded to the union and waited for this lady to answer some idiot who loved to call at the moment we were about to be served. The present? It was a diary with a calculator.
I wondered if it was worth risking hit by some reckless driver. Well, since we were in the area, might as well redeem the gift. That’s what the union is always for. Redeem gifts like manicure sets, diaries, calculators, torchlight-cum-radio-cum-siren and other whatnots.

Lesson for that day was that never read maps if one is unable to read them. Consulting them during critical times would result in wrong turns. Always be alert on the lookout for some rash drivers thinking that they are Formula One drivers who can maneuver way much better than F1 wannabes.

The Lion Sleeps in The Jungle by The Tokens03.27.08

This song caught my ears. I decided that it’s nice. I prefer this version though. The dance is by Pat and Stanley. Took me quite some time to find the full version as the shorter version didn’t feel shiok. Enjoy the embedded video. Some history about this song can be found here.

We-de-de-de, de-de-de-de-de de, we-um-um-a-way (drum fill)
We-de-de-de, de-de-de-de-de de, we-um-um-a-way

A wimoweh, a-wimoweh a-wimoweh, a wimoweh
A wimoweh, a-wimoweh a-wimoweh, a wimoweh
A wimoweh, a-wimoweh a-wimoweh, a wimoweh
A wimoweh, a-wimoweh a-wimoweh, a wimoweh

In the jungle the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight
In the jungle the quiet jungle the lion sleeps tonight

(repeat Wimoweh chorus–with vocal ad lib similar to the intro in theforeground)

Near the village the peaceful village the lion sleeps tonight
Near the village the quiet village the lion sleeps tonight

(repeat wimoweh chorus)

Hush my darling, don’t fear my darling. The lion sleeps tonight.
Hush my darling, don’t fear my darling. The lion sleeps tonight

(repeat wimoweh chorus with vocal ad lib)

Where to Take Good Graduation Photos?03.26.08

I’m having a huge headache. I’ve been sourcing for studios that take good photographs for graduation with my family. So far, my search has turned up with a few studios that are recommended.

Gloria

Werkz

DeCharacter Image

The Makeover Inc

Foto-U

Requirements

  • Professional makeup provided
  • Outfit provided for all except the person who has the graduation gown
  • Price should not exceed $500 for a family portrait with 6 people.

From what I have read in the forums, Singapore Brides and Flowerpod, Gloria provides the best output but doesn’t provide makeup. DeCharacter is rather creative as it doesn’t just do traditional convocation potraits. Foto-U does seem to be rather expensive. Werkz also provide good outputs.

My problem is, which one should I take up with? I didn’t realise that taking graduation photos can be such a headache in terms of choosing the studio.

Making My Money Worth03.25.08

I’ve had my share of searching for my web host until I settled on Dreamhost. With Bluehost, Host Gator, and many other choices out there, I was in a maze. With so many features and services provided by the hosts, I was totally lost. How to find the best web hosting company?

First, I had to check out the software that I wanted to use, Wordpress, what else? Next, the requirements for using it; MySQL, PHP and FTP. In addition, I like my site to be up 99.99% of the time. There’s always a down time for the servers to be maintained. Customer support is also an important factor. Finally, I needed to estimate my budget and the amount I was willing to pay.

After looking at feedback from forums and blogs, I chose what I felt was the best web hosting company. This sort of research took me some time as I wanted to be sure that the money spent was worth.

Hot and Sexy Batam03.23.08

Usually, I prefer 3D2N trips as it allows me to have a goo rest on the 1st day of arrival. However, Batam isn’t really a place where you would like to stay for more than 2 days. It’s mostly known for its massage services, just like Thailand. Batam was hot and sexy.

We boarded the ferry at 10am and reached Batam at around 11am. It was still 10am, Batam time. It doesn’t matter how early we reached the place. The hotel rooms weren’t ready. We reached the hotel, Pacific Palace, at 12 noon but were told that the rooms weren’t ready. So, we had to walk around to entertain ourselves until 1pm. By a stroke of luck, one of the rooms was ready just before we decided our next course of action.

Thus, we dumped our bags into the room and went out. However, we realised that we had left out something during our haste for lunch. Thus, we went back to take it. On our way out, the receptionist or some manager looked for DD. Thankfully, we went back because the manager actually went to the room to look for us.

Since we had the keys, DD and I decided to check out the rooms. We chose the room on the left and scared the lights out of the guy who was attempting to do something with the lights. So sorry. Then we went to check out the other room. Thankfully, there wasn’t anyone to frighten.

Since I felt that the 2nd room was better, I chose that room and left with the other choice to the other couple. I was right in choosing that room. The overall displeasure about that hotel is that it had no bath tub. It’s a 4-star hotel but no bath tubs for deluxe, superior and executive rooms. What sort of designer decided it to be that way?

The toilet was large, larger than the ones in Hard Rock Hotel Bali and Ritz Carlton Bali. So I can’t get it out of my mind that it doesn’t have any bath tubs except for Junior and Classic suites.

We went for a massage at Miracle Aesthetic Clinic which had quite a professional decoration. However, I found it odd that their jacuzzi had this vacuum like object that had a pipe to emit the jets. It felt that the bath tub had shrunk due to that extra object. The staff was rather nice to switch off the aircon after discovering that I was cold.

While the massage was average, the jacuzzi was superb. 2 hours of Strawberry spa includes body massage, body scrub, steam, jacuzzi and some refreshments. The package cost Rp 300, 000 excluding tax. Sweet deal, right?

Thus, our 1st day in Batam ended with dinner at some food court. I can’t remember the place but I think it was in Nagoya, with more than 10 stalls selling seafood. Apparently, Bali and Batam are known for their seafood.

The next morning, which is this morning, the couple that got the 2nd room, reported that their bathroom had flooded. The pipe was clogged. The 1st couple joked about letting the water level rise so that they had a standing bath tub. However, in reality, the shower door had opening between the fixed glass and the door. It wouldn’t have really flooded that high.

Naturally, we went to the Mega Mall opposite the ferry terminal before departing for Singapore. I bought nothing except J. Co donuts that Kris had introduced. It does taste different from those bought in the cake shops. The donut was light and easily bitten into. However, my favourite snack still isn’t donut as I am not fond of sweet stuff.

I won’t be booking Pacific Palace but will book another hotel for my next trip to Batam. There’s another option, I can just go for a 1-day trip in Batam. Another lesson lesson learnt, any change in the package meant more money for the locals as they would state a charge of a certain amount per person before you take up their service. The utter horrors of holidays that I dislike very much.

Losing My Mind03.21.08

My memory failed me last week. I was supposed to be doing something that my mum had instructed me to do, place the the spun dried clothes on the bamboo sticks. I forgot about the task totally and went to bed.

Obviously I got scolded. Sometimes I wonder if I am getting older mentally or I am just being paranoid. My feet go to sleep when I place them in a folded position for too long. That’s when pins and needles start to attack them. What can I do?

I have to practise chelation. It’s supposed to help me with handling those problems. Most important, diet and nutrition are vital to health. I don’t like to be in bed during critical times such as holidays. I like to be up and about especially during holidays.

It’s no fun if you are down with illnesses that keep you to your bed and there’s nothing you can do about it. When your memory starts failing, you are scared. I’m scared of losing my memory. I might be still in my prime but I do get worried especially if my health isn’t that good.

Forgetfulness, getting pains in joints, coldness in feet or arms are part of your body telling you that it is in trouble. If I don’t stop to listen and heal my own body, no one else can. Doctors can’t even help me if I don’t tell them what problems I have. I don’t want to lose my health.

In Online Window Browsing Mode03.20.08

I loved accessories, especially earrings. Thus, I decided to search for online shops that proudly display their websites. So far, I have bought once and rather happy with the purchase. The easiest way is to look through Yebber for more such shops. And boy oh boy did I hyperventilate with the vast number of such shops!

After visiting their websites, I was rather disappointed because the owners have reviewed their own stores with 5 stars. Not that it’s a bad thing but the site designs aren’t that fantastic. One of it took a long time to download all the images because the design of the site was made to display every single image of huge resolution. Ok, so I may be exaggerating a little but I have no patience if it comes to downloading the image of more than 3 seconds when using a T1 connection. T1 connection is the fastest while broadbrand is slightly slower than T1.

I can understand if it’s a dial up and the downloads are slow but T1 lei! I’m losing my track here. What I do like is that there are some with beautiful designs but with not so good design. Or I’m using Amazon’s design to compare. Tsk tsk, such high standards.

I’ll introduce some of the sites where I feel they have pretty designs and are updating their accessories.

There’s a lot more but there is one where the domain name has expired. Perhaps the owner had decided to stop. Do note that these are owned by Singaporeans.

My Favourite Trip03.19.08

Having had the privilege to travel a few times, I must say, my favourite trip is to Australia. I went there during the Chinese New Year. Of course I visited my relatives before that. It was a package tour but ended up half free and easy.

However, it wasn’t that bad because we had a guide who drove us around according to the itinerary. In fact, I still remember this couple, there were only 3 couples. This particular couple caught SH and my eyes because of their odd pairing.

They didn’t look married. They didn’t behaved married. They behaved as if they were brother and sister. We just couldn’t make out what sort of relationship they had. The guy wasn’t that great in English and there was this one time, it rained heavily on our way back. One of us wanted to buy something and the guide recommended 7-Eleven. And so, we went there to make some purchases.

Before we alighted, the guide was telling us a whole lot of information and we weren’t used to the accent yet. This guy (from the odd couple) kept nodding and agreeing. At the end, he asked, “Ee kong simi?” (What did she say?)

We couldn’t keep our laughter in. I guess face was the issue here. It’s one of my favourite trips as it was rather relaxed and we had someone to drive us around. The only thing was that I got sick of was seeing kangaroos and koala bears from day one to day six. I did like feeding them though.

I Buy Too Much Clothes03.18.08

When I first started working, I wore T-shirts and jeans to work. I didn’t need to wear any formal clothes because I had to change into the uniform provided. I didn’t need to crack my head about what I was going to wear the next day.

After I changed my workplace, I had to do some shopping. I had no fashion sense whatsoever. My clothes were often of the plain old blouse with white and pink. Even my pants were of mostly the ’safe’ colour, black. I should have gone to check out New York fashion schools to help me in my fashion sense.

Maybe I could have taken a course with Westwood College Online that is a fashion school in New York to help me in merchandising. I could be earning my 1st million now and more after that. Who wouldn’t want to have a great sense of fashion and still be earning big bucks?

I now have too much clothes that I don’t wear that often. I still remember the 80/20 rule. 20% of the clothes are worn 80% of the time. I bet fashion schools New York would be able to help me.

New Age Girl by Dead Eye Dick03.13.08

I hate the name of the band. Why would anyone want to be called dick? It’s so obscene! Maybe it’s more memorable. Oh well. I had rather enjoyed the mass dance routine when I was in poly. I found a lip-sync by these guys who are great. Enjoy the embedded video.
