Expensive to Marry in Singapore
You can say that again. Couples planning to tie the knots are having trouble trying to book their preferred hotels due to the steep and rising prices of the banquet tables. Even the red packets (ang baos) have to be bigger too. That way, the couple will not be able to cover their wedding celebrations, let alone honeymoon.
The price list for 2007 is available and I can’t imagine what it’ll be like for 2008 onwards. All these are just the tip of the iceberg, when the housing loans and renovation bills come, you’ll start to think how to get married with all these huge debts.

@Bobo

If only can be simple, but most grand wedding dinners are for the elders.
@DK
Doesn’t hurt to do some research

Take a bus down to Malaysia and do your wedding there - less than half the price.
Btw, I did my wedding shoot in Seoul because it costs the same as doing it in Singapore, plus you get a something different.

Not only is the banquet is getting expensive. In fact everything is getting more expensive.
Look at the Chinese New Year goodies. There is going to be a 10% - @20% raise in price. So far I have not seen any good news about the prices are dropping everywhere.
This sucks!

@Larry
Overseas wedding photos do look nice and special besides providing the special memories.
@motd
Rise is so easy. The drop only happens in certain areas and definitely not for buying goodies.

It really boils down to how grand you want your wedding to be.
If it is at a 5-star hotel, expect to pay the works for it and do it if you can afford it.
A lot of folks say the red packet you collect will pay for the dinner.
If you go for a SGD1,000 a table, that works out to SGD100 for each person.
Don’t sounds much, but knowing Murphy’s Law, expect some to bring a family of 4 and give SGD20.
Lol…

@Aeondad
While it boils down to the couple how grand the wedding is to be, the parents are the ultimate decision makers who want the wedding to be grand. The red packets collected may not usually cover the cost as I have seen my friend receiving from inviting 20 people with each giving $20 which is slightly better than your example.
@Cloudywind
Aye, nothing is cheap anymore.
@Bobo
Simple wedding would do so much better for our pockets, right?
Oh my, miscommunication.
@Jason
That’s not a good excuse hor. Women’s youth has limit, ok.
