6. Law of Temporal Variability

Time is not a constant. Time stops for the hero whenever he does something ‘cool’ or ‘impressive’. Time slows down when friends and lovers are being killed and speeds up whenever there is a fight.

  • Always wanted to find that sound you wanted to hear? This may be the solution for you.
  • For those who have writer’s block, these prompts may just be the cure to unblock it.

Paris Hilton, The Heiress06.28.07

Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton. I hear see online every time. All the blogs are awashed with her name. Is there no getting away with her? No. She is the heiress to the Hilton hotels and any man who can actually manage to tame her shall be allowed a piece of her inheritance. Assuming he can even capture her heart and he is actually allowed to own part of it.

She seems to like lapping all the attention on her, both positive and negative. Seriously, what was she thinking when she said “I hope to be an example to the kids.” when she was going to be jailed or released from jail? I can’t a link to a report, now where did I read it from? Anyway, her stint in The Simple Life lead me to further conclude that she is just someone who has rich parents and doesn’t know how to appreciate the meaning of being poor.

Even her initial scandalous sex romps failed to dampen her high-spirited ways. She broke the law by driving drunk. The suspended license didn’t deter her. Her jail term from the trial to the jail-time to her release were sensational. OMG. How can she generate so much publicity and still manage to charm others, I don’t know.

There’s a parody on her hamburger commercial. Not sure how long ago but the guy in the parody was real funny and vomit-worthy at the same time.

It’s Natural to Step Back06.28.07

Going to work early everyday can be taxing but I still have work because it’s the only way to gain some fixed income every month instead of waiting for blogging income. I don’t get any here. I can if I want to but I prefer the pressure to come from work rather than blogging, so it’s best to stay this way.

I was buying some bread when some lady was trying to get to the tray at the cashier, so she tried to cut through me. If I could shrink myself, I would. I was queueing to pay for my bread and had to step back. The aunty behind frowned and tsked at me loudly when I stepped accidentally on her toes. I apologised. Frankly speaking, I was already moving back and you should have moved more towards the right than blocking the entrance on the left so that everyone else could move, right?

I don’t understand why the lady had cut from right to left either. My natural reaction is to move back if someone in front moves back so that my precious toes won’t get stepped on. High heels can do their worst. I don’t want to risk losing my toe nail again.

Today, I needed a laugh. This provided it. As stated, parents, grandparents, whoever, please note that it is totally wrong for kids to do it. And, the owner, please change the spacing or your advertiser. They can’t even do it right.

Forget the unpleasant incident, it’s going to be Friday soon and weekends are meant to be enjoyed. Er, provided you work 5-weekday week.

NETS Won Against Case06.26.07

Frankly speaking, I’m very disappointed that NETS still won its fee hike. Ridiculous, I say. Competition? True but you don’t just up the transaction fees at this point in time. The GST hike and the ever-rising fuel cost are already costing us major headaches and NETS is very helpful in creating another headache.

I use NETS to pay for bills too. Are they saying that we are not using it enough? How odd. I see most use NETS to pay for bills and credit card bills. Some may be paying via cheques but that is another number to be accounted for. Is there a case study on how people are paying the bills for shopping, groceries, bills and other what-nots?

The extra hike in GST is going to make a $2 meal increase to $2.50 - $3 meal. The food stalls are not located in the food courts either. Not to forget that why the movie theatres will be increasing the ticket prices yet again too. Maybe Poh Kim and Sembawang Music must be the happiest owners in future. Or P2P sharing would increase more than ever. So, to gain more profits, everything goes up. But, at what cost? And, don’t call me whiny.

Update: As I don’t want anyone knocking at my doors any time soon, comments are closed due to strong sentiments being built up.

3 Times I Failed to Get A Slot06.25.07

Utterly disappointed and frustrated and whatever bad feelings towards True Spa has increased. First, I had to change my date to another week, the lady supposed to be in charge of our package did not reply. Second, I attempted to book directly via the phone with their staff. The booking failed because I was booking more than a week in advance. Third, I tried again this evening. The slot failed to be opened again.

Three times. 3. Bloody. Times. I should write a complain letter to the CEO or whoever is on top of it. I want a refund.

My Internship Sucked06.24.07

I did my internship programme years back. It was where I first met a new friend from the same school and the time spent there was less torturing. We were supposed to get some working experience so that we would be prepared for the real working world. We agreed on one thing, the company was lousy was had totally no experience related to our studies or modules.

We were doing administrative stuff more than anything that was remotely related to our course of studies. All I remembered was that we had to shred paper which were tons and thus both of us decided to do it together. The accountant, on the other hand was concerned that we would be talking more than working. She complained to our lecturer who was supposed to take care of us. I forget what the role was, facilitator? Never mind, it’s not important.

He spoke to us and wanted to know our side of the story. We told him what the problem was and felt that we were being bullied. Heck, our hardship can’t be compared to those who were underpaid and hoodwinked into applying something they had expected but it wasn’t true. The irony was that the ladies in the small office did more talking than us and expected us to be focusing on the work?

When we finally completed the internship, we were both elated to be back in school. The internship only taught us something, the school tied up with companies that looked for them. They did not match us to the related fields we were studying. The companies usually pay the lowest amount and we were paid $300 per month and when I hear of anyone complaining about their $500 per month, I said, “I was paid $300 per month, the minimum amount required and did all those shit. You get to surf the net every time while I don’t.” That shut them up.

Moral of the story is, network with those companies that you wished to work for and their pay is definitely more acceptable than those who are out to exploit students.

Random reads for today. It’s hot and humid today and my bet is that I’m going to hit the showers (new shower head, the other one stayed at power jets that won’t change no matter what. Not nice to hurt any sensitive parts of your body.)

Some reads to feast on and enjoy.

  • For the surfers, can you beat the rats? The rats are way too cool.
  • Now, to earn some spare cash, perhaps Blogitive could be another option to try out. It says that you can earn at least $1500 per month. In USD?
  • Chinese shares seems to be falling. I wonder if the Olympics would actually help fuel the shares. Oh and I love the mascots. Pandas are cute.
  • Wondering if you are unimportant? Everyone will ignore you.
  • There’s a new food, not available here, definitely. It’s dick. And it’s yummy.
  • I’ve always loved animated gif.
  • I wonder if a map can be as colourful as Bruceville. Bruce reminds me of Bruce Lee.
  • Children learn from adults. They do what they see despite us telling them the opposite. Sad to see that negative things are being taught nowadays.

Lack of Courage Brings Depression06.23.07

People just love to ignore warnings, don’t they? See what my previous about it being a depressing post brought? More traffic and pongs. Ironic that I did warn about it being depressing. However, it did bring comments that were insightful.

23 June Pongs by Pingsters

When I wrote the post, I was being depressed about my choice and disappointed with myself because I have thought about what I would love to do but never had the courage because of moolah. Vitamin M is important because here, I can’t eat without paying. I can’t claim from any charity because I’m earnings something. Money makes the world go round, they say. That’s why barter trade died of because of some clever person(s) who invented created money.

Another issue is our mindsets here. Once we have worked for, say, 4 years, we should be moving up the corporate ladder and do some management thingy. Our obsession with being in management where it’s supposedly less brains cells killing in technical terms. Actually I think management level is the toughest position to be in because it’s more brain cells killing than other positions. See those who suffer from memory loss as they grow older? See those who go mental when they are no longer needed to think so much? It’s part of the contribution.

Anyway, what this post was supposed to be about was how to get more pongs in Ping.sg. besides the sleazy titles that usually end up in top 10 in the last 24 hours.

Move Along, This is A Depressing Post06.22.07

Been thinking of career path change these days. Totally got sick of doing programming and no value add to myself. Besides spending money on a degree that I don’t know will get but hope to get, I haven’t been updating myself ever since. I feel outdated with the fast moving programming languages. Java, PHP, ASP are so old news. Now, there’s AJAX, XML, and whatever is currently being used or tested online.

I never had a chance to touch any other languages besides VB in MS Access. That is also old news and I’m definitely rusty from not using it for 4 years since I left the 1st company. It happens to be the longest that I stayed. The rest never beat the record. Or, I have been thinking about my career path since then. Perhaps.

In addition, I feel stupid. Slow. Moody about my current choice. I ask myself again why on earth I took this up. Either I’m suffering from some depression about work or I’m tired of doing the same thing and unhappy about being value-less besides being able to document, staple, get user sign-offs, etc.

I’m so into the getting out of my current scope. A career change is not easy. Nobody said it was. One has to uncover the possibilities, plan and consider that the skills are transferable. This is getting more depressing.
