Past Events12.22.06

I blog, a lot. I started way back in 2005 using Friendster and migrated to Wordpress. I must say I’ve build up a lot posts and links to other posts and blogs. In the process, I’ve found Cute Overload, Daily Kitten and The Daily Puppy.

I’ve also found blogs that post only videos, photos, and other focused niches. Each has its own flavour. There are also blogs that simply have comments for every post. There are also blogs that give out tips on how to attract more readers, commentors, etc. Below is the list of blogs that dish out their tips.

1. Binary Dollar

2. Business Opportunities

3. Link and Blog

4. ProBlogger Tips

5. Can I Make Big Money Online

6. Weblogs on Adding Search Engines

7. Daily Blog Tips

8. Chubby Hubby

9. I Eat, I Shoot, I Post

And many more here, here, and here.

Next question, is how to stand out. Frankly speaking, standing out in the Internet world is like looking for a needle in the haystack. What some would think is that, blogging? I don’t write very well, how to blog? Actually, you don’t have to be a writer in order to blog. Your blog is something about you and your voice, opinions and many other things. That’s why the tag lines after the title you may see some phrases that mean that they are voicing their own viewpoints and opinions, which is true.

If you don’t write a lot, post photos, comics like Bounce Back to Life, links to interesting stuff like Kisumi, podcast like Mr Brown, etc. Gosh, so many ways to make yourself known in the Internet world. The next thing I would have to worry is being stalked. :|
I think there’s some tips on how to prevent being stalked. Maybe Mr Angry has the right idea here, he is determined not to jeopardise his anonymity.

Local Support - Nil12.22.06

I’ve never watched any local plays or musicals before. Maybe it’s because of mindset. Aye, mindset is the main factor that determines whether we watch local-made movies such as Jack Neo’s I Not Stupid, Money No Enough, and his coming soon Just Follow Law. Notice the 3-word movies by him?

When Dim Sum Dollies decided to be part of Little Shop of Horrors, I was thinking who would be interested in watching it with me. I came up with the list of nil. Here’s a review by Jeremy who had watched it. Looks like I’ve saved my money on it though.

Wow, Jack Neo has a spot in Wikipedia. As if it’s something new, maybe it’s been there a long time. I wonder if our local movies, sitcoms and dramas will have a cult following overseas. Then, the little red dot would be easily remembered just by mentioning its name.

Teenage Years12.22.06

Parenting can be a headache. My parents had to go through our teenage years for years; there’re 4 of us. The difference is that, there’s about a year or two whereby she can take a breather. Teenage angst can be torture for both the parents and teenagers. You discover that you’re now officially a teenager when there’s acne in the middle of your forehead 8O There’s a top 10 list on what NOT to do when trying to parent a T.A.G.

The parents on the other hand, discover that their child no longers listen to them and any attempt to make them come home after classes have ended fails miserably. The ritual is the same, from ages 12 to 19, we start to find out things about our bodies, ourselves, our identities and our morals. Friends seem to have found theirs faster than you do and you feel peer pressure. However, we have never tried to view it from a another point of view; they may be trying to find out if you have found your identiy.

For me, my teenage years were attempts at trying to be in the popular group. However, there’s no such group or was there? I was going through the years being blind to everything else except my results and those friends whom I could get along with. I’ve lost touch with most of them because I’m not someone who will call them up randomly, “Hey! Long time no see! How about a coffee later?” Everyone has different schedules after the change from graduation to work. See my valiant attempts at organising a simple dinner.

However, being a teenager has advantages despite being unable to watch any R21 movies; most aren’t artistic anyway, even now. You get to enjoy rebates, well, except in poly :x (same age range as JC but no transport rebates, even now) You get to check out the babes and hunks without guilt. Now, come to think of it, I never did much checking them out unless he caught my eye.  Mostly you get eye candy during teenage years. Mistakes are made and you learn from there.

I wished to be 18 again.

Unavailable Weekend12.21.06

This is terrible. I had planned to go shopping when I had to OT again. This time, it’s later, I left at 8.30pm. :( There is no way I have the energy left to shop and the shops close early today. They start to close later tomorrow and I’m sure that I will have to OT tomorrow because the system upgrade starts tomorrow. Damn it!

I want to spend my Saturday with DD and I’m not sure if I have to go back to be part of the testing process after the upgrade. I think the testing will start in the afternoon. Darn it! :x

Blue Discs12.21.06

IMG_0252 [via Webshots]

I usually have my lunch at the hawker centre that’s near my workplace, well, 2 bus stops away to be exact. I had finished my lunch and passed by the shop that sells fish. There’s a staircase next to the shop and everyday, there is a man selling VCDs on a small makeshift table.

Today, I happened to look at his customer who was flipping through the VCDs from a small box. It was full of pornography. I kept a blank face (I hope) and walked at my own pace to the bus stop. I haven’t called the police yet. I’m sure the man will regconise me and immediately link his arrest to me. I still have to eat there. Darn.

Go Away! Yucky Stuff!12.21.06

I like to read comics at Bounce Back to Life. The characters are well drawn and reflects on our lives. The latest and perhaps the last for the year 2006 can be found here.  After reading it, I truly wish that we can clear up such yucky stuff so simply.

Affected by Work12.21.06

We have different viewpoints. Some of see work as a means to eat (填饱肚子). Others see it as a way to share their passions. Me? I see it as a way to pay my food, housing (in future), transport (bloody expensive now), bills (handphone, internet, etc). I don’t intend to let my work spill into my social life but ever since I’ve changed companies (3rd for this current company), work has been creeping into my social life. I was late for my dinner gathering and badminton session. It’s depressing.

I just feel like staying at home and stare at the wall. I don’t want to think about anything except attempt to continue my project which is stuck yet again. I have been feeling rather moody, down and sad because I was actually looking forward to spending more time with DD.

Sometimes I wonder why did I stick to doing IT? Why did I even spend a bomb on this degree that has brought me nothing but anticipation, anger, frustration; except the part where I’ve made a few friends along the way? Why did I upgrade myself? To have a better life, that’s all.

The problem with IT is that any system roll outs, they have have to be done during the long weekends. Work is core business and you can’t tell the boss that since the normal working hours are from 8.30am to 5.30pm, you can use this time to roll out the system upgrades. It means a loss of income for the company and even though the employees will be very happy, the bosses ain’t gonna be. It’s the same for any IT company. You just pray that you won’t be the one who has to come back during the weekends and public holidays. Unfortuntately, in future, I’ll be the one doing the support and I may have to sacrifice my 1st Christmas Eve this year. I don’t even know if I’d be free on 23rd December. :x
I just pray that such occurrence would be rare. Upgrades done very year during December can be a strain. It’s outright absurb. However, bosses feel that December is a good month because most people are not in the office and the upgrades can be done with minimum fuss. Of course la! They’re not the ones doing it. They won’t be the ones coming in during odd hours and troubleshooting it. They just switch on their handphones and wait for the news.

Mystery Game12.21.06

I found this interesting. It’s a murder mystery whereby readers try to guess who the murderer is. Have fun! Found via Lil Duck.

Long Wait12.20.06

I have a thing against buses. I’m not happy about leaky aircons, non-aircons, crowded buses, dirty buses and worst of all, long waiting time for the bus to arrive. I’m also against buses that contain the number 9. This morning, I had to wait for 15 minutes for bus number 97. There was an express service that I missed. So, I thought, fine, there’s still the normal service, which never arrived. Instead, the next express service arrived, 15 minutes later.

So, may I know where was the normal service? It wasn’t raining at in the morning, so you can’t blame the weather. What happened to it? Why is it that I kept seeing bus 51 3 times, 143 3 times, 197 once, 78 once, except 97?

So, may I know where is our money to the hike going to? Is this hike just a hike and also a hike to nowhere near to better buses without leaky aircons and bus frequencies? If you don’t want us to complain and be whiny, do something about it :!:
