Genting WorldCard11.30.06

The customer service for Genting WorldCard is lousy. I sent them an email on my lost WorldCard and they haven’t replied for eons! :x Maybe I should have called instead but I don’t like calling because customer service people tend to speed up their sentences and I can’t catch anything. I like such things to be in print. If there’s anything that I’m not sure of, I will call. Apparently, they are aversed to emails except flooding your email with their promotions. :?
Looks like I won’t be going to Genting again any time soon. I want to go other places.

Car Names History11.30.06

Animal Planet had a rather interesting programme last night, well, it was interesting to me anyway. It’s about how the naming of car models came about. Too bad I didn’t know it was on, so I missed the start of it.

Jaguar does come from the animal itself and hence the logo on the car is always found on it. Someone once told me that she didn’t like such cars because the seem to have large nostrils when you look at them head on. It’s meant to be designed this way because of its orgin from the fastest running mammal on earth. The car also performs like the feline.

One company had held a car model naming contest to name their new model launch. Now, if only they still do it now, the cash prize would be very useful indeed. Wait, maybe they still do it but internally. Dang.

Mustang, the other name for horse, came about much later. The logo is of a running horse. Horse power is a measurement for engines because when they first designed the engine, they wanted to encourage people to buy. That was the start of the automobile era and everyelse was convinced that only horses had the power to run fast. It’s a description of how powerful the engine is.

Cars with animal names started to pour in after the Marmon Wasp was first entered in a race and the driver won. Birds such as Thunderbird, Firebird, Roadrunner and even snakes such Viper, Cobra were involved in the naming process.

Now, here’s the history of how the giant car manufacturers came about their names. Yes, Mercedes is a girl’s name.

O2 XDA Apollo11.29.06

Just when I thought there was going to be no competitors to Dopod 838Pro, O2 came out with tit-bits for XDA Apollo. Sheesh. I don’t know if I should have waited for it. Life’s like that. When you wait till your neck’s long, and finally you decide to just go ahead. Then, WHAM! A new and better product comes out whetting your appetite.

Anyway, there’s no date of release for this yet since it’s to tease us. I waited for months for the release of K750i and when I bought it, K800i seems like a better option. -_-’  Now, K800i is in the hands of my lil brother. He wants a silver which looks very 007-like. Maybe it’s the theme that comes with it. I think he’s quite happy to have a handphone after waiting for weeks.

I’m still bleeding from buying K800i and 838Pro in one night using Nets both without contracts. I better win that Chevrolet.
Let’s see what other information will come out way for Apollo. I hope someone can give a review. I don’t think I want to bleed again. I still need time to get used to PDAs.

Clamping Them11.28.06

Looks like China is clamping down fast on political blogs. It seems that Asia has taken a step towards closing down blogs. I don’t think I have read any news on the East closing blogs that are berating their leaders. A cause for thoughts.

Are we that restrictive? Too narrow minded? Just paranoid that something will erupt and say cause World War III? I don’t know but it may be just that we love to control everything.

Dust Settled11.28.06

I submitted a complaint via online to M1 this morning and a few hours later, a lady (Vanessa, no full name, breaking my 1st rule of no identifiable names but this is an exception) called me asking to verify the issue. One good thing out of it is that my dad will have to go M1 shop only so that he doesn’t have to bring the police report since their systems are able to check on the central database.  My dad is going to be a bit appeased. However, I think he will change telcos from the looks of it. Once the new rule about retaining your numbers even when you change telcos is in place, my dad may be one of the 1st adopters!

I’m keeping this here because I didn’t record the telephone conversation. If only there’s a way.

Dopod 838Pro 1st Impression11.28.06

Well, since this is a 2nd hand device, I guess my expectations dropped somewhat. However, the casing was quite well looked after, albeit slight chip at the infrared area. I like the sliding keyboard although still trying to get used to it without pressing twice or more to get the letter I want. There’s a limit to the number of suggested word list though. I don’t understand but I guess, it helps that it doesn’t lag for this part. It’s a bonus to frequent use of text messages since I don’t like lagginess when I’m keying in.

I tried the camera, I agree that the camera despite being 2 megapixel, it is lousy, especially at night even with night mode on. The photos turned out dark and no amount of touching up would do because of the noise once you try to brighten it. I notice that there’s an editing tool for the images, haven’t fully tried it out yet. When in camera mode, there is a few options which I can’t interpret from the icons. Guess, I shall have to read the 376-paged downloaded manual that DD had saved for me.

Since it’s my first time navigating a PDA, I find it daunting that there are so many different code names from the menu itself. Well, actually no, it’s the unfamiliarity of navigating smart-phones. It took me a while to figure out what Today actually means and it doesn’t mean Today. It actually means what’s going on for today such as the date, upcoming appointment, tasks due, etc. Quite handy.

Ruffled Feathers11.28.06

Ok, so after yesterday’s outburst, I guess I’m a little cooled down now, since my video call and major connections are working fine. I haven’t tried MMS yet. Maybe I give it a go tonight. Now, the main problem here is that I’ve still yet to get the accessories such as the orginal charger, pouch and data cable.

I hope the previous owner is not out to cheat anyone even though he/she has managed to cheat the shop owner that the PDA phone has been in used for only 1 month when I suspect it’s 3 months. The lady boss did mention about the warranty could be more than 1 month. My parents cautioned me about the “get the other accessories later” scheme because of previous experience we had when I got my first handphone in 1997, I think. So, it’s coming to 10 years since I got this number and still going strong.

Now that I mentioned it, it has been been very troublesome to buy any handphone or get anything done by M1 because we always have to bring the fading police report (carbon copy lei, it would have disintegrated if not for the file) for them to photocopy. They have photocopied that report a hundred times (since it’s only 10 years, a million would be exaggerating indeed) when we want to change subscription plan and renew contract. I don’t know why we stuck with it for so long but my dad loves the number and so do I. With the new introduction of able to retain my number when I switch Telcos, I will do it at the end of this year.

It’s frustrating because we never got a straight answer from them why they never closed this damn case. 10 years lei! AR usually have to use debit notes by year 5 and they are planning to keep this on our heads till we pass on? How can like that?!

I’m going to draft a letter of… of… of complaint or demand or whatever to them. I will switch Telcos if they can’t gimme a satisfactory reply!

Dang it! I just riled myself up again.

Cheated Feeling11.27.06

I feel cheated, this Dopod 838Pro has been in use for at least 3 months! How can tell me only for 1 month? It’s a major difference ok! Sure, it’s not registered but how do I know that it’s the truth? How did I find out even when I had just done a reset, you may ask, well, photos stored are not formatted when I do a soft reset. It’s a reinstall of the default software only.

I checked the photos that the previous owner had taken and they showed September 2006! GAH! Kena CHEATED! I haven’t got my full set yet! I want the charger, pouch and other things that are supposed to be with the whole set. If not, I will sue you!

Apparently, I’m in a dark mood today, even after I’ve changed my SIM card to 3G and video calls are now enabled. ARR! Now have to upgrade the ROM before I start to analyse how to personalise my ringtones and message tone, no shoot the message tone, it’ll do for now.

I w-a-n-t m-y w-h-o-l-e s-e-t i-n-t-a-c-t! You get it?!

On Hold11.27.06

I know why everyone hates being on hold. Can you listen to the same music being repeated again every 10 seconds for 3 minutes? I can’t! I hang up and call again until I get someone. It does help if you have a speakerphone. However, my neck’s aching because I don’t know how loud the speaker is.

I’m on hold again after this guy went off to check information on my dad’s account. Sometimes, I hate using my dad’s name for my handphone plan, the worst is that I can’t change it yet! I can’t wait for March to come. I will change the plan to my name and if they still ask for that lousy police report after more than 9 years of refusing to close that darn case, I will terminate my number!

RRRRROOOOOOOAAAARRRR :!:
Unfortunately, it also means I can’t keep that favourite number because the new system only rolls out in Dec next year.

GGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH :!:

Dopod 838Pro11.27.06

I finally bought Dopod 838Pro. I must be out of my mind, right? It’s so darn expensive and I still went ahead after spending quite an amount for K800i as a replacement for my lil brother. At least K800i was of the cheapest being sold by DD’s brother’s friend. Long relationship, huh? Actually, this PDA is a 2nd hand. It’s my 1st time buying 2nd hand goods. I would like a new one but if a 2nd hand has been used for about 1 month, it can’t be that bad, right? Besides, the previous owner had not registered it online yet.

I have a problem though. Whenever I changed any settings, such as switching on Bluetooth, I can’t receive any incoming calls. :x How can LIKE THAT?! I thought it’s compatible with 2G cards? Must I change to 3G? DD tried his 3G card and it works like a charm  Must I exchange with DD? :(
I have to restart the PDA :( Or maybe I should just buy another “normal” handphone like everyone else, such as K800i to use. 838Pro might as well be just a PDA that has WiFi and every other PDA functions. It’s supposed to be a smart phone.

I did a soft reset for it and same thing!
