Shocking Discovery09.19.06

I finally claimed my final 1/2 day time off on Monday afternoon. Went out with my DD after my meeting with the project supervisor. I’d have to change my project idea or go more in-depth. The 3 things I don’t have is very dangerous as my supervisor mentioned. If I don’t have the needed support, I won’t be able to do well. May even fail. Scary thought.

I wanted to buy a new set of swimsuit, well, bikini, in fact. Went to Pine and Pears, is that even the correct name? Tried a few pieces and felt that one of the sets was rather good. DD didn’t think it was good and told me something, the top and bottom prices are different which meant that if the top costs $100, the bottom costs $100, I’d be paying $200 in total. No discounts. Just the minute pieces of clothes covering strategy areas for $200. I nearly fainted at the total cost of my selected design. Luckily DD saved the day. He told the sales girl that we’d look around first. I think I saw her face changed drastically.

I haven’t had my lunch at 2pm because I don’t what I wanted to eat. DD said that one of the complex in Bugis has a lot of vegetarian cafes and restaurants. Darn, forgot the name, it slipped my mind. We went in to one of the restaurants as I felt it looked yummy and no queue. I wanted Hokkien Mee as it’s been quite some time since I had it. For $3.50, the plate looked large except it was shallow. So, I was enjoying my meal since DD had lunch already. I don’t like to eat vegetables cooked by stalls except by my parents. Why? Simple, the vegetables are never washed that clean. I had nearly eaten some dark looking insect which I shudder to find out what species. I think it was during my exam period when I was on long leave. Told my dad since he was the one who bought it. I had eaten halfway that time, lost my appetite after confirming with my dad that it was a cooked insect.

PC Repairs09.16.06

Finally sent my PC for repairs. Apparently, the motherboard is spoilt. It would cost about $210 to buy a new one. Hopefully, it’s the only component that needs to be replaced. If it’s the hard disk, I’ll faint. Because there’s data that I don’t want to lose and I don’t have a backup of it yet!

Well, I’ll only know by the test results tomorrow or Monday whether there’re are more problems. I just don’t want to pay so much now because I’m going for my holiday!

Stolen Knob09.16.06

All these years, the knob for the fire hydrant had been there since it was installed. Recently, there’s a spate of metal stealing people. They steal these knobs for selling, each one costs about $50. Take 4 every day to sell, and you earn $100. How nice.

The thing is that because of scrap metal buyers, it gave rise to these thieves. Mine just got stolen, a few days after my DD mentioned the crime to me. Ironic.

Now, it looks so sad and lonely. It’s not nice either. I hope that something can be done soon.

Brain Drain09.14.06

Been doing OT again for the past few weeks. It’s my last month of service and I’m doing OT. Well, at least I don’t have to stay till 9pm that kind of thing. I’ll lost my temper and scream.

Really brain drain. Don’t even think I’m functioning well enough. I’m finally going for a holiday, although not Thailand as planned initially. Somehow, with bad news from Thailand such as their prime minister being threatened with bombs, the appeal has flown out of my window.

I’ll see how next year if I can go for the trip.

My results are witheld yet again. In year 1, it was witheld, I had to call them up. This time, they sent me a letter. The envelope was too thin so, I had a bad feeling about it and I was right.

Hope that I have passed all of them. I just want to get on with the final year project.

A Strong Feeling09.13.06

Sometimes I have this strong feeling or urge to do something that I normally won’t do. Been feeling this way lately and I wonder why. I’m not sure if anyone has felt the same way. Maybe you have.

Our feelings may be hard to control sometimes. I wonder how I’ve been coping with such strong feelings lately. Yeah, maybe I might just do something crazy. Nope, not to jump around and shouting like mad. Just do something I wouldn’t have thought of doing in the past.

What a Hassle09.11.06

I’ve been bugged by this user for 3 weeks. I can’t believe it!

First, there was this request for auto-email. I had a lot of difficulties with it initially.

Second, after the implementation of the enhancement, he wanted to stop the emails which were sent twice or three times. Since it was a design problem, I fixed it.

Third, he wanted to know who were the people in the CC list but they should not receive it again since they already have the previous email. Now, where on earth got such email system that does that? If it’s in the CC list, the email has to be sent!

Fourth, he wanted to add a history of emails sent. Well, there is a history except it keeps track of the actions instead of the auto emails.

I don’t know if my skills are not powerful enough or it’s a case of flip flop wants and want nots from this user. He tends to flip flops his wants and want nots by re-phrasing his list everytime we have a discussion.

I can faint from it. I wanted to bang a huge hole in my desk this morning. However, I ended up shredding the papers that are no longer useful. My anger didn’t abate till lunch. I didn’t want to end up with indigestion just because I was feeding anger with my food.

Well, Wordpress has kindly incorporated avatars for themes. That’s fine, except, how do I remove the avatar if I don’t wish to display any images?

Better Off Now09.09.06

I must say, I admire the blunt truth of telling a guy that you are so much better off without him. Miss Representation has written a piece of her mind. I wonder if that guy will take the advice of investing in a better toothbrush.

I guess hers is just one of the many cases of guys who want physical but not the emotional intimacy. How sad. Is is asking for too much? Or we are just reading it wrong? Or maybe it’s just a fling?

Travel Ready09.09.06

I’m cleared for travelling! I have received my new BioPass this morning after travelling by MRT to ICA for 1 hour. Queued to get a number, waited for 15 minutes to get to the counter. Another 5 minutes to scan my thumbprints. Finally, me is ready to book travel tickets! XD

I’m crazy, right? So happy about a passport. I guess I am. I haven’t been to other countries since my last trip to Australia in 2003. 3 years of studying part time and working full time sure ate up the resources for travelling. Except, I can’t go to UK, US or Korea because of budget. Darn.

Anyway, I can travel to Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong or Taiwan. I hope so. With the new job in place, I want to go for holiday before the start of my new workplace. Won’t be able to take any leaves for 3 months, so I must make full use of what I can now.

Should It Be Like That?09.08.06

Just wondering if there’s really a need for bullet-proof BMWs for the delegates for IMF. Isn’t it a little too much for a country that does not allow citizens to own fire weapons? First, the very expensive gifts for the delegates and spouses, now bullet-proof BMWs for key delegates?

The 15-minute arrival clearance for them may be giving them the wrong impression that our airport is very efficient, everyone will clear in 15 minutes. What if those delegates are so impressed that; especially those who are here for the 1st time, they think that they will clear the customs in 15 minutes the next time they decide to come here for a holiday? Will they decide to kickup the customer’s king fuss attitude?

The flowers being planted along Orchard Road is another question mark. Once the IMF is over, the flowers will be up-rooted. When the delegates arrive for the 2nd time as holiday, won’t they wonder?

Are we going all out just to impress them this once? Why are we making so much efforts only when such events arrive? Where are the efforts being published in ST? It’s to broadcast, what else can be the reason? It is just a good excuse to broadcast the efforts and put the people’s photos in the newspapers so that others will know, “Oh, so he/she is the one.” Orh, Sweet Potato.

Maybe I’m just green with envy that I’m not part of it. My photo won’t be published. Sour grapes, right? Maybe. However, I’m just turned off that the flowers are only decorating Orchard Road for a short while and not permanently.
