Painful Morning

 Broke my big toenail just when I had crossed the overhead bridge and climbing the 3rd step when I missed it. The pain shot up. I looked down and the nail was loose! A little more than half of it! Blood was oozing out of it. I was debating if I should continue for work and just bandage it with some plaster. However, I decided the blood and pain was too much, and the plaster may not hold up since I would need to disinfect it.

Crossed the road with only 1 second left before the lights changed to green for the cars. The 24-hr clinic can be a good thing. I registered myself and waited for the nurse to check my blood pressure and clean my wound. Waited another 20 minutes for the doctor to advise on whether I want to remove the whole nail :O or bandage it first and go for a review on Saturday. The whole removal nail part is scary. I would have gone for it if someone was there with me. However, it is a Wednesday morning and no one is that free.

The nurse disinfected the wound and put something sticky, wonder what that was. Should have asked her. She bandaged it real tight and big. I ended up limping in my heels because the front is too small. Have to think of a way to wear some shoes that fit so that I can work tomorrow. Frankly speaking, I don’t like the sound of it, work with an injured toe. I have to walk a long way just for lunch lei!

Anyway, I took urgent leave after requesting my colleague to inform my supervisor. The nurses were very nice. One of them hailed a taxi for me. The security guy opened the door for me. Wow. All these after spending $129.15 :( Consultation fee was $40! It even included the nursing fee, 2 nurses to clean my wound, one of them disinfected it. The cheapest is the dressing but they only gave me one miserable piece (5 x 5cm). I can’t recycle it, right? I have to buy myself? Give more la!

If I can, I would sue the contractor who agreed to the lousy design of the steps. The steps are so small! For small feet people! I still have to walk up the steep slope just to go through the security. I would love to sue the person who even thought that the steps are wide enough!

The irony is that my dad had injured his toenail months before. My injury is the same as his, left toenail.

You didn’t tell me you injured your toe nail when you sms me early yesterday. I was just finishing my shift and can just pop over.

I think it’s a good idea to remove the dead toe nail. You don’t want the thing to rot and give off a smell.

$130? That’s kind of expensive! Maybe go down to the hospital A&E or Polyclinic might be cheaper.

ouch. so far none of those using the steps were as unlucky as you … but maybe that toenail was destined to come off like your dad’s.

get it treated and disinfected asap before infection sets in. wish you a speedy recovery !
